Hi, I was trying to open a Macquarie Transaction Account online. But after a few days, I received an email saying that they require me to provide a certified copy of identification. However, during the application process I've already provided my drivers license and there were no mentioning of needing a certified copy of identification. I have applied for other banks before (NAB, HSBC) but they never needed me to provide this. So my question is do all banks need this or its just Macquarie? Also, I tried calling them and they took 30mins to respond….

thats rather harsh
They want you to prove you really want to join them.
what did they say when you called
"Please wait, all our operators are busy, but someone will be with you shortly".
Exactly lol!
They said I need to go to a qualified person and have my ID certified and signed. This is new for me coz I've never experienced this issue with other banks even if I applied online. Thanks anyways!
I signed up recently and I didn't have to do that. It took about 3mins.
OP probably failed automated ID check or some other screening system.
Nah this is just you, you must have provided incorrect details.
Contacted them again and it turns out that I only provided the front side of my drivers licence. Silly me…
Why does it matter?
If you want to bank with Macquarie you'll need to follow their policies.
Awhh!
