"choice of Medium or Well Done"
Why are they the only choices?

    • +6

Because they cook it in the microwave from frozen… probably

    • +9

Probably can't serve rare for take away.

    • +9

Probably have two sous vide baths set for medium or well done only.

    • +3

eat in is also limited to medium or well done, i asked them about this before and their response was that the 200g steak is too thin so medium is the rarest they can do, they larger size steaks they can do rarer

    • +3

They are yesterday's rare and medium rares…..

    • Because it's an $8 steak. Something tells me they don't have chefs they poached from Michelin Star restaurants out back nor are they using beef they flew in from Kobe the night before.

  • +3

The last schnitty deal for $5 was good, I'll head down and grab this one too

    • Good value but didn't taste very good, I am not going to get it again if they have the deal again

    • Last deal was crap, cold schnitty and chips (and I picked it up as it was being packaged). Sauce was the best part. Wondering if this is even worth it after the Schnitty deal

    Limited to 6 per person

Who is eating 6 steaks a seating

    • +10

      A family of 6…?

    • No-one. The clue is in the second dot point of the T&Cs.

    • When you have it takeaway

    • +1

Who is eating 6 steaks a seating

      Sounds like a challenge

  • +2

None near me dammit. Not going to ipswich for a steak…or anything!

    • Redbank plaza has one, not the best neighbourhood either

      • +2

I class redbank as ipswich. Yea, toombul if I was over that way.

    • u can go to toombul, still near the bris cbd lol

  • +1

Is this 200gr after they cook it or before?

    • +23

Anyone want to weigh in on this?

      • +5

        During

      • +2

Comments like this really tip the scales

    • I'm only guessing but I've only seen meat weighed when it's raw.

    • +2

they add or remove a bit when its done cooking to make sure its 200g standard practice

    • Who weighs a steak after you cook it…

    • It's bought weight mate.
Chicken, lamb, sausage, steak, all weighed raw.
The amount of juice/blood etc that comes out of meat once cooked is considerable.
The more its cooked, the less it'll weigh due to reduced water content.
That's why a well done steak shrinks so much.

No way you're getting a 200 gram well done steak.

    • -1

According to the law of physics, it should be the same weight. Cooking oil is added to replace the evaporated moisture.

      • Which law of physics would that be precisely?

        • I’d say he means conservation of energy but the practicalities allude him

        • That one.

  • +2

We tried the schnitty special last week, $20 for the four of us. You guys were right: that mushroom sauce!

  • Great price. Unsure if it's great steak.

    • It's not a great price if it's shit, which it is.

  • +10

200G Scotch Fillet cooked to your choice of overcooked or burned

    • +1

was quite interesting watching the steak episode on Ugly Delicious.
Medium / well done is actually not bad, but depends on who cooks it and do they actually do it correctly for a well done / medium. Also depends on the quality of meat.

However you are probably right in this case, rashays = fast food cooked by probably teens, so dont expect fine dining steak cooked to perfection and/or a good piece of meat. Not all steaks are born the same quality.

  • Argh why offer not valid in Melb??

    • +3

Well I mean technically it's not not valid. You'll just be travelling a while to your nearest venue.

    • Maybe because Melbourneans are richer???

    • You know they’re trying to run a business, right?

    • +1

      same i wanted 7

    • +2

Considering I can see no record of a revoked neg, I'm guessing this was in jest.

  • Going to buy 1 and see how good it is, then going to buy another 6

  • Jealousy is a curse. RIP Victoria

  • I find Rashays so confusing. I've only ever seen one store (Eastgardens NSW). No one ever seemed to eat there.

Who is ordering a steak from a fast food place in a food court?

    • Eastgardens is the closest to Victoria

  • What’s the best way to eat this in a car lol can’t stand having cold mushy chips by the time I get the food home

    • With your hands.

Actually maybe some sort of horse feeder round ya mouth?

    • I miss the soggy chips in salt and vinegar wrapped in newspaper in a cold rainy night when I was in London. What an experience, what an adventure. Ahhh.

  • +1

Never tried Rashay's before, and we missed the schnitty deal, so we gave this a go today. Our medium steaks were cremated, and they gave us mushroom gravy instead of their "famous" creamy mushroom sauce, but hey, it was $8. I'd probably get it again.

    • +1

You're not wrong there about the cremation bit - this is probably the first time in my life that I absolutely hated the seared char marks. Mine's tasted carbon bitter.

    • I asked about that too (the schnitty mushroom sauce). Apparently you can ask for it and they'll give it, but the default with steaks is the mushroom gravy. I didn't mind it. For $8 it was a no-brainer for dress-rehearsal Friday.

  • MEDIUM WELL is the right way to eat steak, and they dont offer it!

In other words whoever is cooking cant cook it 'pink but not bloody' = no skill.
If you specify 'well done' you'll get charcoal, and if you specify 'medium' you'll get blood.
    Ridiculous.

    • I believe you mean medium rare. Many chefs in steakhouse restaurants refuse to cook a prime cut to medium well temperature because you can’t then uncook it if the diner complains it’s over cooked

  • Anyone know what the usual price is?

  • +2

Just picked up my steak for dinner at work and actually surprised at how tasty it is zero complaints for $8!

  • Ate it for lunch, the grill flavour was good and I was surprised they actually cooked it medium rare because it's literally as thin as a Maccas cheeseburger patty lads

  • Smallest steak I've ever eaten, I doubt it was 200g as it was small and thin…

    Good charcoal flavours though!

  • Science of cooking steak was on Catalyst recently: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/catalyst
21:10 in. News to me but the red fluid is myoglobin, not (exactly) blood.

  • We had 2 each for lunch was very good :D
