Advice on Buying 2004 Mazda 3 for $3500
Comments
Look up the redbook value and then check some Mazda forums/sites about what issues to look for. Then get RACV or NRMA to do a full vehicle inspection before deciding.
whatever car it is, you usually need a safety certificate or rwc, pink slip etc and then pay more for registration. You can get newer cars for $3500 - $5000 with all those included. Why take a risk? Early Mazda 3 cars had issues with the valves. I see a lot for cheap.
No, buy a Corolla instead (like most OZBs).
Amen to that!
Posh, the real OzBargain car is the $80,000 investment with high yield.
Not again please !
@Marcsie: High yield for the car dealer. Gets paid and recurring income through parts and service.
Nothing to see here.First time poster. OP please look at other used car posts.
Nah
Maybe ask a parent or guardian for some help
Post your question on Whirlpool.
They have many car experts there.
If you don't know how to work on cars, I would recommend against buying an old car. Try to save a bit more and get something less than 10 yrs old.
Why?
$3500 car + $3500 for repair .
I'd try find something of similar price that isn't that old.
I someone stalking me, cos my comment is similar to what a few others have said and they only negged me…?
LOL
Ouch. 2 stalkers. Keep wasting those negs :D :D
PPSR report. Only costs a few bucks but tells you if it has every been reported stolen, insurance claims, written off, money owing.
I bought a similar model for $2800, 170000kms, black hatchback, it lasted me over three years and the only thing I had to do in that time was replace the engine mounts and headlight bulbs which I did myself. Sold only to upgrade. If its got service history, oil looks good and it runs fine then why not, you can definitely get it closer to 3k or under depending on condition though. Check PPSR, get an insurance quote first, check when the rego runs out and obviously that it has passed roadworthy.
Of the models you could choose in that budget a Mazda 3 is one of the better picks. Mazda are considered pretty reliable.
Buy an old camry in good condition. Corolla if you need something smaller. A Falcon/Commodore if you want something of Aussie heritage. Check with a mechanic before deciding. As long as mechanically and air-cond are ok. Done due.
Based on no other information on condition, service history, mechanical check etc. have you got couple thousand for repairs standing by?
If not, make sure you get it looked over by a competent mechanic before you purchase. Also cross-check similar spec cars on Carsales.com.au
