Tricare Instant Hand Sanitiser 975ml $9.99 @ ALDI

1810

Aldi have hand sanitiser coming up as a special buy. 975mL for $9.90. Things are finally looking back to normal :) I actually really like this sanitiser and prefer it over the Detol one as it's less sticky.

Limit of 2 per person

Thanks to alzori for posting the link to the whole aldi cataloguefor next week!

Lately Aldi is inconsistent with their special buys, I went twice for two different things in the last weeks and they did not have the special set for that date.

    • +1

Their supply chain is struggling now because it's so lean, took them at least a week or two to catch up with coleworths for items like toilet paper. A few of the special buys was even skimmed to catch up

    • +1

They've been overwhelming us with explanations about that though so it seems fair to me. At least at my local I've only seen like one item that wasn't there on the correct day.

  • +1

Are you sure aldi is less sticky? I've used from all aldi, detol and aqium and aldi is the stickiest, especially the pink colour bottle one

    • +4

IMO, Aldi's are among the stickest in the market.

      • +20

I barely made it out of the store it was so sticky

I got stuck in the store

This brand has a weird after smell.

    • +1

I concur. I hated it so much and gave it to my colleague who didn't mind the smell.

This is something that I bet someone with an enterprising mind could capitalise on - a crowdsourced hand sanitiser review website.

      For example…

Dettol - 9/10, good fragrance, good drying time (>20 sec), good gel texture, Petri dish test found it did indeed kill all the germs

Scotts - 4/10, disgusting smell (like paint thinner and potpourri mixed together), good drying time, gels nicely out of the bottle, killed all germs

Woolworths Essentials - 4/10, smells alright, takes way too long to dry, comes out of the bottle as a watery liquid not a gel, though it did kill the germs nicely…

Coles Non Alcoholic Sanitiser - 1/10, smells nice, but it takes forever to dry and testing found it was not as effective as alcoholic sanitisers…

There’s already productreview.com.au for this sort of thing. They just need to set up a hand sanitiser category.

What did we do before hand santisiser

    • +10

People don’t want to catch a mysterious viral disease with no known treatment and an uncertain, occasionally fatal prognosis, one of whose main presumed modes of infection is touching contaminated surfaces such as door handles and then touching the face or eyes.

      • -8

So wash your hand and don't touch your face. It's amazing that Aldi are selling this magic antidote that we all need. It's called consumerism.

        • +10

What are you going to do when you need to press a button to use a lift or something, and there's no soap and water nearby?

And it's incredibly difficult to not touch your face. You can try and stop yourself, but you will eventually do it subconsciously.

          • @mubd1234: Singaporeans hoarded condoms so they can use it to press the button to use a lift there.

          • +3

@mubd1234: some people will look for a negative angle in every little thing. Imagine arguing against portable hygiene!

        • I was using hand sanitiser before COVID. We have it on the baby's change table, as there's not a tap there, so we can do a quick sanitiser before washing hands. Also when out and about before eating, after using toilet if the handwashing facilities aren't up to scratch.

Most likely infected a shitload of others. This infection route is no different to influenza. If you sanitised your hands more often, maybe fewer people would catch the flu or gastro or any number of other illnesses.

Some Chemist Warehouse stores have Aquim Ultra in stock via click and collect. The good thing about Aquim is that it has moisturisers . The problem with regular hand washing and sanitiser use is that the skin dries out quicker.

At least the Aldi Tricare Sanitiser is made in Australia, whereas Dettol is made in Thailand. I would rather support local companies if I can.

    • +2

Made in Australia but sold by the Germans?

      • +6

Most of the items sold by aldi is australian sourced/made. If you can support our farmers and our products, do it. Doesn't matter who sells it. They need our support more than ever.

        • +1

Most of the items sold by aldi is australian sourced/made

Not really. Walk around Aldi and check the labels. I’m finding most times the product is sourced from overseas.

          • +1

@ak47wong: Not really. Suggest you take a better look. The vast majority of ALDI products are Au made.

    • Placed two click and collect orders for Aquim with my local CW, both out of stock. They have heaps of 200ml Dettol for $5.99 a bottle, $1 cheaper than Amazon

  • +2

Well it looks like prices of hand sanitiser is coming down, I hope this continues as more supply is coming to the market.

  • +1

Two per customer and more like 10 per store, probably sold out in 2 min 😂

  • Soon enough there'll be a glut in the market and they'll be paying US to take the stuff, much like oil. Crazy times we live in!

    • +1

It's just ethyl alcohol mixed with some fragrance and moisturiser (e.g. glycerine) or gelling agent. I'm pretty sure our ethanol supply has just been diverted from use for fuel to being used for hand sanitiser.

      • +1

There were two main problems in suddenly producing a huge amount of sanitizer: labels and bottles. It takes at least a week to get new labels designed and printed, and there was a shortage suitable containers. Producing large amounts of ethanol is not a problem. We're doing that already.

    • +3

There is already a glut in the market. My local stores have shelves full of masks and sanitizers. We have dodged the crisis so far.

Just four week ago people were ordering ethanol liquid (not even a gel) for $50/L. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/528045
I pointed out what a bad deal it was and got about 50% negative votes.

How many people ordered and got their $50/L product last week? Now gel sanitizer is $10/L and falling.

  • Perhaps off topic, but is it just me that judges the hand sanitiser by the about of cold I feel as the alcohol evaporates off when using it? A local craft beer bottle shop is selling some distillery one but they insist everyone spray on the way in (which I think is responsible). On the way in it is in an unmarked no branding spray bottle so they are not pushing it or anything. Very fluid rather than gel but you feel the alcohol is really doing the job.

    • My hubby judges like this haha

    • +1

Higher alcohol content will make it evaporate faster and feel colder… But if the concentration is much higher than recommended it will evaporate too fast and not give the alcohol a chance to kill stuff on your hands. Just pick something made according to WHO guidelines for optimum germ killing ability.

  • ++ for Aussie Made!

  • I’m surprised Aldi is already offering a Special Buy on hand sanitiser. It may not be as difficult to find these days but I’m hoping they’ll have lots of stock knowing that demand remains high. Last time, there was uproar 2 weeks into the panic buying phase where they had bulk paper towel and tp which went in the blink of an eye.

  • +1

I remember buying those last year. I had 3 bottles in the basket and then I thought to myself - why would I ever need so much hand sanitiser, like some sort of crazy hoarder. And so I took 2 bottles out and bought just 1. If I only knew back then that soon it will turn out to be the biggest mistake I have ever made at Aldi.

  • Cheers OP. Will definitely grab a couple. It's a lot of sani but I'd been using this before COVID-19 after nappy changes for my kid so I'll get through it eventually! I find you only need a tiny dot so it lasts ages.
