good resolution for the size… also… good luck pushing anything higher to really take advantage of the 165hz

  • +1

I glossed over the WQHD part. Want something for my PS4 Pro and PC.

    • -3

      PS4 pro can output 1440p.

      • +2

Last I check it only had options for 720p, 1080p and 4K, no 1440p/QHD

  • -1

Why can’t they combine 2 monitors to get a 49inch one.

    • its hard to get them to sync

  • +4

This monitor provides a great combination of IPS, 2k, low response time and a high refresh rate. Rtings recommended it as one of the top monitors for gaming: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/by-usage/gaming

If you're tossing it up with the 27GL850 (similar specs), I think the 27GL850 typically has better response times and better consistency (but is priced around $800). If your graphics card can't keep up with high frame rates, the 27GL850 might be a better option.

    • +1

I agreed the 850 is probably slightly superior, the price difference is too much currently to justify.
(FYI i wasn't the neg on your comment)

      • +1

I agree on the price difference, and the Asus also has a unique feature of the ELMB technology. At the end of the day, these are both enthusiast monitors and the choice will be based on the particular user requirements.

    • -3

It's a shame the LG GL83A isn't available here, as it would wipe the floor with this, but overall I still would probably avoid this monitor.

Its responsiveness is mediocre, and its feature set is crap. This is a $450 monitor IMO, and with a new wave of monitors coming in competing and superior sizes, I would suggest this will be available for $350 when markets stabilise.

      • You can buy the LG 27GL83A in Australia, unless 'here' means somewhere else: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lg-27gl83a-27-qhd-144hz-1…

        • Horrible pricing, it should be ~$600
Likely a combination of JB/USD Dollar

        • Good spot, that's definitely new, but it should be priced below $600, and at most $500 on sale.

          • +2

@jasswolf: I was about $400 after tax in America.
So with the currency conversions it would be $625 here, but keep in mind there are other small costs associated with bringing a product to a different market/region also.
USD does play a big part as most contracts would be in USD.
It was also an Amazon exclusive meaning they probably bought significant volumes and their overheads would be far lower than brick and motar.
It should be about $650 RRP here if you're being fair.

            • @swimmingtoad: True, forgot about GST. Competing models will drag the price down though, so sub $500 should be a thing, in time.

              • @jasswolf: For some reason ozbargain isn't notifying me of replies…

I noticed boxes of them in Malaga late last week. There were no tags out yet but I thought even with JB pricing it would be no more than $699. I was wrong!

    • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/535064 $749 delivered (but on back order.)

      • Just saw the Asus will take up to 3 months to arrive! We'll all be upgraded to COVID-20 by then!

  • +1

This product has a 8-12 week lead time - we'll all be back to our offices by then at this rate.

    • Pair it with one of the new TUF gaming laptops.

  • Any recommendations for a 4k monitor with decent refresh and g-sync?

    I don’t wanna waiiiit

Well then go back in time, stop this pandemic get the factories running along with the rest of the supply chain, and ensure there’s adequate stock.

      Thanks.

      • +3

        BRB!

        • Back yet? Still says 8 to 12 weeks. ☹️

          • +2

@cnut: Damn it I stopped the other pandemic instead!

      • +1

        I'll think about it.

        • +1

          Name checks out

  • +2

I wouldn't pre order something like this with a potential 3 month lead time.

I expect prices to stabilise and drop over the next few months as China exports ramp back up and the world goes back to normal. I wouldn't like to lock myself into a lengthy preorder unless it's an unmissable killer deal.

If it were a GL850 for this price then they'd have my money.

  • +1

Personally I got the GL850 2 months ago and would rather it over this with a 3 month lead time.

  • It's HDR but it's not even HDR400?

  • I ordered this about 2 months ago for about 700 and really happy with it so far. Only complaint is with dark screen or max brightness maxed the bottom left corner glows, which seems to be a common theme for this monitor

    • yeah its called blacklight bleed. its pretty bad on my asus pg279q as well.

      • +1

I don't notice unless I'm watching a movie, never bugs me in a game so I can't complain.

Interesting - Asus rates a bit higher.
Looks like the LG is better for people who need more 'pro' features (eg. better colour), otherwise the Asus beats it.

    • yes i saw that too. theyre rating the asus as good as the really popular LG. Given the current $130 saving for going the Asus its really winning but I dont wanna wait 2-3 months either. Hoping for a discount on the LG or someone finds more Asus stock

      • +1

I am ordering from PLE Computers, local pick-up to save shipping. Stocks expected in mid-May. They would not price-match Skycomp but I was able to get it for $669.

    • +1

The LG is easily the overall winner. Check some proper reviews, the big thing to keep in mind when comparing is that the asus is not suited for gaming under 80fps whereas the LG will still do well at 60. Its still a good monitor if you plan to just play at high frames and have the hardware to do that, but if you want to play at lower then its better to pay $100 more for the LG.

      • Oh thanks for the heads up. So stick with LG then? Gpu is 2070 super
I did start getting headaches from FPS recently so thought the Asus elmb might help

  • How does this monitor differ to the Asus ROG PG279Q? Specs looks very similar, is this a refresh of that product?

  • Anyone know how this compares with xb271hu?

  • +1

"We had decided to cancel and refund your order as we cannot supply this item in the near future."
Unfortunate, but I figured this was a possibility given the current circumstances. Best of luck to anyone else who ordered.
