Dell G5 5090 Gaming Desktop 16GB with NVIDIA RTX2060 for just over $1600 after discount, can more RAM be added?

need a new box for 1080p video editing (tutorials and a little promo stuff for a small business, no big FX) using Davinci Resolve 16 and some RAW photo processing (moving up from a lenovo t440s with Intel HD graphics!), it doesn't need to be a total beast, but want something that's not doing to slowdown my workflow. Was looking at a custom build but this looks pretty incredible value at just over $1600 after discounts. thoughts?

anyone know if more than 16GB RAM can be added if I need to?

just by logic i believe nowadays any new motherboard should be able to handle 64GB RAM

  • yeah, I haven't had any experience with hardware up until this point, so I am clueless! I pulled the trigger and bought it - $1631 delivered.

  • for anyone interested, response from dell:

    Slots: 4x UDIMM slots
    Speed: 2666 MHz speed
    Type: Dual-channel DDR4 type
    Max per slot: 16GB
Max total 4 slots: 64 GB

  • 16gb is enough for most people. 32gb might be better for you

  • update: have been experiencing freezes since getting this box, plus the Alienware Command Centre stops working constantly (no perceivable impact of this however).

dell support are very good though, have replaced motherboard/ssd (onsite visit) BUT problem still remains and are working through the issue. very frustrating!

as this machine was bought to increase my productivity, this isn't the case yet!

  • update: dell are replacing the machine with the new G5 5000 - 10th Gen i7-10700F & RTX 2060 SUPER. While it's been a PITA can cost me time on the phone, a system reset and having to package the machine for courier collection, I can't really fault their online/on site/replacement service and pretty confident of a good outcome.
