Help with Buying TV, Fridge, Dishwasher, Dryer, etc

Hi guys,
I have joined Ozbargains a few months ago. I check the deals on here at least a few times each day and have had a couple of good deals from here.
LG 75LG6970 for $1499 + $100 Rebel gift card. I can also use my employer discount of 5% with Harvey Norman. Thanks for helping me with this.

I now need some direction on buying a few things as mentioned in the title.
I am finishing building my house which is completing in June. I am looking at buying most items new as ones I am using are either very old or not in good condition.

Mainly looking for
1. Washing machine
2. Dish washer
3. Dryer (clothes)
4. Fridge freezer

Optional or can wait for later
1. Wireless surround sound system

Any recommendation for good landscapers would also help.

My ideas:
1. Look for the item I like, talk to the store and try to negotiate a price.
This will likely take a lot of time and effort for multiple items. I have a friend who can help pick up stuff, so would be perfect to pick up from a couple of stores max in close by locations.

  1. Approach a few stores and talk to store managers and tell them I need multiple things and negotiate a price.
But my worry here is that, that some items in that store may not be the cheapest available or may not be available at all. Can I ask them for price match and then negotiate

1.Can you guys suggest any good ways of getting all the stuff I want for a good price (obviously some store are more negotiable than others)
2. Which stores are more negotiation friendly? (Tried haggling with Harvey Norman and they didn’t play ball)

I am building in Craigieburn. Pointers to local stores will be ideal but I am willing to travel for the right deal.

Appreciate this is a long post but I hope it will save me some money. That’s in advance to all who can help

Regards

Get an idea of list of models that you want, then begin your haggling tour between HN, TGG etc and strike a deal.

Or you could also try appliances online

Depending where you live, you can find the areas where gg, hn etc all in same estate and you can walk between them trying to get them to better each other

  • But my worry here is that, that some items in that store may not be the cheapest available or may not be available at all.

If you want the best price, you need to help your self and do some research. Find what models you like and which store has them. Knowledge is power.

Can I ask them for price match and then negotiate

    Price match= set price
Negotiating= possible to be lower than the price match. So always negotiate first to find what their offer is, if it is greater than the price match price (aka competitors price) then show competitors price.

Buying multiple high price items should excite the sales guy. Do your maths before hand, of how much you're willing to pay for each. Then do some more maths in your head while negotiating. No pain, no gain.

    • That’s a very good idea, I never thought about it. That is the reason I asked for help here. Multiple ideas better than one person’s thinking. Thanks

Check if you can get commercial pricing for these items.

    • How can I do this? I will do some research around this. Thanks

If you couldn't haggle with Harvey Norman, you must really suck at haggling. Find all the things you want, get best prices from each store, then make them fight each other.

    • I am fairly new to Australia and hence I didn’t go hard at it. I just made a polite enquiry. I was pretty good at getting good deals back in the UK. As I don’t know much about the Oz market I didn’t know where to start

Just go hard, the worst they can say is no. Work out where the max is you'd like to end up at total, and start a decent amount below that. If they won't do it to your budget, try somewhere else.

Thanks Brendan. I’ll give it a go

        • Lol. Some Harvey Norman's refuse to discount, my local will act like your cutting their throat for $10 off a $800 deal.

I remember the look on their face when I said "and if you remove your commission what is the cost price?"

I recently purchased all of the major appliances I would need in my new build.
I had some lead-time so I just waited for an ebay 20% off on Good Guys sale to come up. In the meantime I researched the models I was interested in. Then when the sale came up I pulled the trigger on the stuff I wanted.
There was one item I wanted they didn't sell on their ebay store - a 900mm Bosch dual fuel pyrolitic stove. For that one I did an online chat with Appliances Online - told them if they could get the price to $X I'd buy that day. They did, so I did.
    Simple.

    • how often do these come up?
