Its a good price. Bought last week from another grocery store for $93.

    • Why are you being negged for sharing your experience?

      • No idea. Must be the effects of isolation screwing his/her head.

  • I dont know about you but it helps to put the price in the title.

    • Sorry man. Did this on mobile hence why short and sweet.

  • That is a cheap ass.

I'm no honey expert. Could someone explain to me why you'd buy this?
    Cheers

It is a spread like jam or peanut butter to add to bread

But for me, a spoonful of manuka honey at this high grade has been helping me with sore throat and quicker cold recovery especially during winter.

I guess treat this like a Vitamin I suppose. Others can comment their experience

      • -1

        sore throat

LOL. Normal honey is just as good when ingested. Try reading your own link. "The main medical use for manuka honey is on top of a wound."

        • it's also very thick

        • +1

Don't be nasty. I was just trying to help answer the question from PH81.

          YMMV.

          • +3

@burningrage: What exactly was "nasty"? If you read your own link, you'd realise that this stuff is meant for topical application, not ingestion. Your actions are probably leading to other people buying this product for ingestion and wasting their money. I would argue that is more "nasty".

Manuka honey is a triumph of marketing from New Zealand. The supposedly important chemicals in it are found in many Australian honeys at similar or higher levels.

    • +1

Any recommendation for Australian Honey with MGO850+ (UMF 20+) 250g around this price point? I am genuinely interested.

      • as a new zealander living in oz I can tell you that any manuka honey will do the job. actually any honey will.

      • No idea I'm afraid. I get all my honey from my hives in my garden.

You can buy 340g for 10 bucks at woolies. Used to buy 1kg at Coles for 10 bucks. Rip off the price is.

    • +1

1kg of Manuka honey for 10 bucks at coles? Lmao! What a troll!

  • Aust L or Aust R?

    • What does this mean?

      • Aust R means the claims are backed up by evidence. Aust L means the ingredients are safe for consumption but probably not for your wallet.

    $200 per kilo ?
I'm going to pass on this one thanks

Some info on honey VS Manuka honey.

The valuable properties of Manuka honey come directly from this rare plant that grows in the wild region naturally.

As a result, the honey contains high natural sugar and is 4 times more powerful and effective than other types of honey. It has an enzyme that contains antibiotic compounds such as methylglyoxal and hydrogen peroxide. Such components are acidic and have strong antibacterial properties.

The honey is so popular that there is a grading system to check its uniqueness. It is known as the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF). It postulates that original Manuka honey from New Zealand should contain Leptosperin, Methylglyoxal and DHA.

The potency in this honey may differ from 7 to 16+, while 16+ refers to superior quality Manuka honey.

It has numerous health benefits including antibacterial properties that are able to cure the viral and bacterial infection. Bacterial infection can’t survive in the waterless environment of Manuka honey.

It has anti-inflammatory properties that heal sore throats and soothe internal wounds. Therefore, it is now used to heal throat inflammation of cancer patients.

The only advantage it has is as a topical application to a wound. When ingested, it has no noticeable advantages to normal honey.

      • Why did you neg me?

I only provided information on the difference between standard honey vs Manuka.

There's no need to be a troll.

        • I'd love to see you provide proof that I negged you. Go on.

The real trolling being done here is from people like you who are suggesting manuka honey has benefits over normal honey when ingested. Statements such as yours could lead to readers wasting their money.

          • -1

@kahn: Ingesting Manuka honey does have additional benefits that other honey such as fighting off dental and gastrointestinal bacterias.

Your statement is ignorant. Buyers should always do their own research and make their own decision whether it is a good purchase for them. Money is only wasted if there is no benefit to the buyer.

            • +2

@butas: It seems like you are making baseless claims. Nothing that I've seen has shown any benefit of manuka honey over traditional honey when ingested. If you have some scientific evidence, then please post it.

              • +1

                @kahn: But Gwyneth says so

              • -1

@kahn: Could say the same about you as well. I have no scientific background and probably like you, I'm relying on information that is on the internet.

                • +1

@butas: Because the internet is full of facts. Come off it. If it has therapeutic qualities it would have oversight by the TGA. Otherwise it’s an expensive food

    • +1

      "from this rare plant:

Struth? Tea-tree? If you want to get picky the pink stuff is Kanuka so doesn't really count, but it's hardly on the endangered list unless the Cockies have cleared a huge percentage of the North island over the last few decades. It was the Kiwi equivalent of the U.K.'s clover honey and Australian Blue gun - the basic no-frills honey.

The "rare" has all the truthiness of a graphic of Tūī offering nectar to the bees and rolled of the edge of some marketing desk.

    • Is this registered with the TGA and what is it rated? Aust L or Aust R. If not Aust R, it’s just honey with great marketing.

    • Some info on honey VS Manuka honey.

Please quote your source for this info. Sounds very much like marketing spiel.

  • power of marketing 🤟

Also being very thick than others, 250g will carry lot less volume compared to other honeys. (higher density)

  • Tried it for years whilst living in NZ. Bull !!

So strange that everyone is commenting here.
And when I post a comment it gets negged and then deleted.
    Bizzare
