considering the 14" 3500U has regularly gone down to ~$700 +-50 with cashbacks… why is this so expensive?
12.5" FHD
Those deals are for E series ThinkPads, this is an A series (the AMD equivalent of the Intel T and X series). T and X series are the flagship ThinkPads, E is the lowest tier.

Announcement Date: 01/10/2018 = 843 days oldPlus no thunderbolt…
Thunderbolt on AMD? lol
843 days ago would be 2017.
This generation of ryzen chips is really bad for battery life. See this review https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-A285-Ryzen-5-P… . The Intel equivalent (X280, with 8250U) lasts twice as long while idling and while playing back video. I think the 3000 ryzen mobile chips are supposed to be better.
My understanding is there's a small jump from 2000 to 3000, and a really big jump from 3000 to 4000 moving down to a 7nm process and a more efficient architecture.
yeah Ryzen 2000 is the 1st gen (AMD didnt have mobiles out intime for their 1000 series) - for $1,000 you'd want a bit more than 1st gen gear.
I do get that Lenovo is a good brand and that FHD 16gb etc is a high end spec list but that doesnt compensate for the fact that 1st gen Ryzen will guzzle the power.
Save your money for when 4000 or even 5000 comes out.
At $500 I'll get one for fun
Your idea of fun is underwhelming
Yeah I get turned on by bargains
I wouldn't touch A series with someone else's ten feet pole
Would make a nice Hackintosh machine
Any links for compatibility, ?? Thanks
They don't make Ryzen Macs though.. AMDs have been historically horrible to Hackintosh.
This, or lots of steak?
