Um… I don't think the Dream Machine is compatible with an external controller (i.e. cloud key)…. Not sure if they can both exist on the same network, but I guess the Dream Machine would host the controller and the Cloud Key would be for Protect only.

Correct. I started with a UDM, then wanted to add Protect. The only Protect devices at the time of purchase was the UDM-Pro or the CKG2+.
When adopting the CK, I just set up Protect, and didn't touch the Controller side of things, and it works fine. The UDM still hosts the network controller. Not an ideal setup, but given what I started with, it was the only option. Hoping for a dedicated, expandable Protect NVR in the future, once I reach the cameras limit of what the CKG2+ can handle.
