I never had this issue. my laptop run more than 15 hours a day. Make sure, you are not blocking the vents of the laptop to make it hotter.

Don't do that. As the ice melts, moisture will go into your laptop.
My friend's motherboard in laptop actually burned because of that.

Try to use books to block up, which might help.

You're likely to end up with condensation inside your laptop.

  • Does anyone recommend a good Laptop riser & cooler +/- USB ports???

Do not want to spend too much on one. Say <$100 for a decent one that doesn't wear out its fan bearings like the cheapy one I got off ebay.

    • Im currently using this Belkin laptop cooler http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=47…
This one is 'wavy', so it leaves a gap between the fan and the laptop, allowing better airflow. It only has 1 fan, but cause of the gap and airflow, its powerful enough to cool the base of the laptop. Havent had an overheat problem since I got it.

  • hmm, i am using ice pack gel, so no ice melts. this one http://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/product.asp?id=59692&pnam…

Icy surface would still cause condensation from the vapour surroundings, isn't it? Actually I don't really see a need for those laptop coolers. Usually it's just blocked vents preventing air circulation (for example, putting on the lap with clothes blocking the vent). A large flat surface would do the trick…

  • If the laptop is more than 10 months old chances are you probably have dust clogging up the vents. Take it apart and clean out the dust from the heatsink and fan.

  • oops. delete pls
