[Refurb] Samsung PM981 256GB M.2 $59 + Delivery @ CGB Solutions

101

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I noticed CGBSolutions have a Refurbished/Factory Sealed 256GB Samsung PM981 256GB M.2 NVMe drive for sale at $59.

This seems like a bargain to me considering the recent price hike of computer components and especially NVMe drives.

If you're building a PC to get you through Covid19 on a budget then I think this would be a pretty good choice - alternatively you could drop one into a portable M.2 drive chassis.

Actually, you need a NVMe compatible enclosure for it to work. Standard M.2. enclosures don't work unfortunately

I learnt this the hard way

  • Site seems very strange. Product page is just the storage. I wonder if they have an ABN.

Looks like an awesome deal but without knowing how many cycles or how long it has be used. There are a few things I wouldn’t buy second hand, ssd is one of them … data is too important.

    • I had no issues with the 128gig Intel SSDs 5 or 6 or 7 years ago whenever it was. These would be good for games etc.

    • Agreed. OP - how have these been refurbished ?

You not going to use that to store yours most important moments in your life. Also if is that important you will back-up that. For who just play games if the storage dies at this price point doesn't matter much.

How to refurbish an SSD? Get a new control chip? Get the ram chips replaced? or just put it into a box and stick a note 'refurbished'?

    • It’s probably just used second hand goods that he is selling as refurbished as it sounds better.

      • The few times I've purchased refurbished SSD's, they showed as with 0 GB/TB host writes, 0 hours power on time.

If this is not the case, then declare the usage / host writes

It really should be illegal to sell something as “refurbished” without stating what has actually been done in the refurbishment process.

    • A quick spray with compressed air and she’s good as new ;)
