Complete 8-Film Harry Potter Blu-Ray Collection - Approx $41

1770

Pre order for the complete set of Harry Potter Blu Rays have gone up. Some of you were waiting for all the disks in one box before ordering; well this is it, timed for Christmas.

Currently there is a degree of competition between UK stores, meaning the Amazon UK pre-order price has been pushed down. No idea if it will go lower before the release date (2nd Dec), but these Amazon price matches have a habit of not lasting long.

Amazon won't give the currency conversion on pre-order prices, but currently it would work out to around the $40.45 level. Delivery should be free, provided Amazon keep the super saver free delivery deal on (no sign of it stopping).

JB Hifi price is currently unknown, but if history is a guide, it will be north of $120.

Edit: Found out today that WB is due to 'vault' Harry Potter on the 29th Dec - meaning no disks available till they release them again in different covers at a later date. This is similar to the Disney cartoon model and means its unlikely to be available cheaper after Christmas, anywhere. If you want it, best to get it now.

    It's levi-OH-sa not levio-SAH

Amazing price. Note that this comes out about 3 weeks after the blu-ray is released (11/11/11).

    • +8

Think you pissed some HP fans off…. lol

      • +8

        In true Youtube spirit:

        3 people say levio-SAH

        :)

      • You meant resell this to HP fans ? @ $100 or so ?

    • +2

Looks like in the UK the release of Part 2 isn't until 2nd Dec.

      • Interesting. I would have assumed that it would be released there first.

        • +3

Might find its the influence of that other american holiday, Thanksgiving (24th Nov) - as in "Here kids, watch this while mummy and daddy get sozzled with the relatives."

Googled the release of the dvd 8 pack and got this http://justjaredjr.buzznet.com/2011/09/21/harry-potter-the-d…

I thought this was interesting- Harry Potter: The Complete 8-Film Collection will be available on Blu-ray for $139.99

Thanks OP for posting this deal :)

is a great buy, but i wouldnt be surprised that shortly after, a special limited edition collectors box set with heaps of extra features and previously unseen footage will come out.

    • These are actually already announced for HP 1 and 2.

  • +12

Nice find. Let's hope the AUD will stay high until Christmas time…

    • .

  • +3

love it how the 1-7 boxset (incomplete) costs more.. of course this is a pre-order.. but still! hahaha

On 21/9/2011, 32.30 British Pounds (Amazon UK's price) is worth approximately 50 Australian Dollars.
    http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html

    • +3

You have to subtract the VAT from the UK price, then convert.

      • +1

Thank you for pointing out the VAT refund. This is the first time I ordered from Amazon UK and I was unfamiliar with the refund.

Amazon UK shows the VAT inclusive price on the first page. When I placed my order, the VAT was set to zero automatically. The price became BP26.92, which about AUD41 on 21 Sept. Of course, the banks and CC companies never have good exchange rates.

        • Depends what bank/CC your with. Some have great rates

      • EDIT: Noticed they deducted VAT automatically!

  • +2

Pre-ordered. Thanks for the heads up. Nothing to lose after all, if it is cheaper else where or exchange rate goes down the drain simply cancel before it ships!

  • +4

Cool. Now I don't have to rent the last three. Cost about the same…

  • Wow! cheap.

  • Thank you, great deal!

  • +1

As per the Sanity link above, I can confirm there is a 10-disc blu-ray set being released here for christmas — wholesale trade price is $119.97, so expect Big W etc to be selling for probably no less than $100. The joke of a RRP for the AU version is $159.95.

Mega-bargain from Amazon, even if the price does go up a bit … plus you're getting an extra disc apparently.

    • +3

good, please continue boycotting JB and the rest :)

  • It's great deal. Thanks.
    I just ordered it.

  • +2

Wow $159.95 vs $41 delivered is just beyond a joke. I'd love the CEO of Warner Home Video Aus to justify this rrp!

  • Just wondering if we're able to watch this in Australia using PS3? Or do I have to buy a Bluray player for this?
    Cheers

    • PS3 functions as a blu ray player as well so I imagine it would work fine.

      • -1

blu ray movies are region free i thought

        • +2

Not necessarily, although these ones are.

There are regions A,B and C. UK and Australia are both in region B, hence its safe to buy blu-rays from the UK and know they will work OK. Buying from the US is more a case of checking if they are safe or not.

PS3 is perfectly capable of playing these.

        • No they aren't, at least not all (same as DVD except the regions differ).

PS3 games are region free however.

  • OP mentioned shipping might be free, but my order is showing shipping will be £3.67. How do you get free shipping?

    • Mine came up with free shipping. Perhaps you haven't clicked the box for free delivery? Try this —-
      When you get to:
Choose a delivery speed: Make sure you click the first option:

FREE Super Saver Delivery (8 - 12 business days)
      Standard (8-12 business days)
      Priority Express (2-4 business days)

      Hope this fixes the problem

Just preordered & got this message, sounds good to me!

"Our Pre-order Price Guarantee covers one or more item(s) in this order. If the Amazon.co.uk price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you will pay the lowest price. Terms and conditions apply."

  • :( have the first 7 already.. but 10gbp for #8 isn't nothing to sneeze at..

  • Thanks, O.P.,ordered it.
I had nearly bought the 7-move pack, expecting the complete series on blu-ray would not become "cheap" for at least another 2 years. Who would have thought it would be so cheap before even being released….
Makes you realise how much we are being ripped off in Australia.

  • Does anyone knows if they sell year 7 (part 1+2)? How much?
Because I bought the year 1-6 boxset last time.
All I need is the last 2 movies to complete my collection.
    Thanks.

    • You could have a look on Amazon youself.. but for both of them they'll cost you approx $30 on Amazon UK (doing the maths in my head so I may be a few bucks off).

  • It looks like there are only extras for the last 3 movies, which means the first 5 are barebones.
I will wait for a complete set I think which has more extras, voted + anyway for a good find.

    • Assuming these are like the previous 7 disk sets, just with the extra films added, the first movies have quite a number of extras (interviews, deleted scenes, behind the scenes, etc.) all on the same 1 disk as the film. You aren't short changed for extra content, and I doubt there will be more extras for those old films coming.

      eg
      http://www.snitchseeker.com/gallery/albums/userpics/84186/no…

      • -1

Have to disagree, I think there will be at least 2 or 3 more "limited/extended/collectors/superdooper" editions/boxsets to come, they will find more extras from archives, new interviews, etc, etc! They will milk this thing for all its worth. This is the modern day equivalent of Star Wars and look at that now!

        • Well I do think they could recut many of the films to make a more tonally consistent set - removing the difference of the various directors, removing the overly childish nature of the first two, etc.

However, with the Pottermore aspects, I think they might well hold off on it for a few years before doing so. The deluxe versions of this are coming out simultaneously - and they tend not to have many additional 'extras'.

  • only 8 episode?

    I thought there was a split between 8A + 8B or something like 8 + 9 = 1 movie?

is this the FULL complete set?

    • +2

You do know there are 7 books, the 7th book (The Deathly Hallows) go split up into two films, hence the "8 episodes"..

    • +3

no its not FULL, just wait for the next set to come by, includes #9 - Snape's Rap Attack

  • any discount codes?

    I Also saw a limited edition http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005GTJEZC/ref=s9_pop_co_…

    • Quite like that one. Much nicer box plus it includes DVDs as well as BRs. Not sure if its worth twice the price of the normal box though.

  • I've been waiting for the day when the final movie was released and I could buy the entire boxset. Never ever expected to be able to buy the blu-ray boxset (or dvd boxset, for that matter) for under $100 within the first year of release. ~$40 is amazing. Thanks OP, can't wait for December! Merry Christmas to me… :)

  • Fantastic find! Cheers OP, so now if the Aussie $$ goes really pear shape are we all in trouble?

    • You can cancel the pre-order at any time before it is shipped.

      • Awesome! So I guess just pop a reminder somewhere to check exchange rates last week of November! I love OB!!!

        • +1

If the exchange rate varies enough to make this not a good deal, you'll hear the howls from Canberra long before.

Currently it is A$1=0.65, to be a bad deal it
would have to be A$1=0.27 or worse

        • +6

I believe you can buy an amazon gift certificate at current exchange rate and use it to purchase pre-order items. :)

  • Thank you! My 6y.o will love his Xmas pressie. Now if only Star Wars in this cheap too.

    • +1

star wars has been re-butchered again, now it seems Vader is having a "Noooo" competition with his son.

      • "Noooooooooooooooooooo"

  • +1

They've also put up the 3D version of the last film, if anyone's interested.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00512WO9M

  • -1

its probably only $40 because JK is finally satisfied with her $1 billion bank account…

  • Any chance it's a pricing error? I pre ordered it but at $5 a movie it seems too good to be true which usually means it is.

    • +1

Nope, this is in keeping both with previous Harry Potter collections, and with prices elsewhere in the UK.

    • +2

Read the thread. You must take into account that we get it tax-free (VAT).

Since £26.92 is the VAT free price.

Even at the current exchange rate, it doesn't change much - although strictly speaking you need to take into account that Amazon's conversion rate is unlikely to be as good as the interbank rate (I assumed 2% off originally for a price of $40.45, which I rounded up).

Compared to the prices people have found for the likely Australian price ……

    • Approx $41 when the post was made on the 21/09.

Our dollar has gone to crap again since then.
No need to neg on something as finicky as a few bucks.

Jeez, you're really going to complain about getting 8 Blurays for under 50 bucks?
If so, this page is not for you.

      • When you consider that the exact same item is available from an AU retailer for $120++, as indicated above.. No pleasing some people!

      • +4

And what's the chance of Australian retailers putting the price up even further, stating unfavourable exchange rate as the reason? I know quite a few things are going to be more expensive, if AUD continues to fall.

        • +1

Yet they never dropped the prices when the dollar was high… Strange how convenient that part is, hey?

  • Bought! Well pre-ordered anyway :)
Thinking about getting and OB tat… ;)

  • Good one, Goyle!

  • thx alot, just ordered, going to watch all with my kids.

  • +1

Please note edited summary: Warner Bros playing silly *******

    • Thanks for the update. And WB can go jump. :(

  • Does anyone know if there is going to be a Deathly Hallows Box set?

    • That's what I was looking for when I found the above news. I've got years 1-6 and wanted just parts 1 & 2 together.

Looks like no such animal exists in the UK or Aus, but in the US there is a special version that does have them direct from WB (not much good to us).

Since the price of parts 1 & 2 as separate disks would be £26.65 vs £32.30 for the complete set, it's probable going to be better to buy the whole lot again (yes, I know).

  • I don't fully understand what WB are doing exactly, is it a bad thing? Could someone shed some light on that for me?

    • Basically, they are stopping production/distribution of any Harry Potter DVD/Bluray after 29th December. So after a couple of months you will be unable to purchase any of the films new.

It's supposed to basically create a false rarity. For me, it just seems retarded. If anyone who is unfamiliar with this happening tries to buy the HP films when they aren't available, they would be very confused as to why they aren't on the shelves..

Sounds like a great way to promote piracy IMO.

      • I think its probably due to the prices being so low now. The only way for the prices if they kept manufacturing would be the bargain bin - and they don't want that for such a money spinner.

Therefore they need to create a market for the higher price, new covers with a few minor changes, editions. Best way to do that is kill off all the existing ones - which also helps to push product in the run up to christmas.

I think they will disappear very fast. Supply lines are short and there's not likely to be many deliveries after christmas. I don't think you'll see too many for sale in Jan.

        And yes, it's dumb.

      • Stuff like this basically led to piracy. They still dont get it.

  • ordered one.

  • ahh couldnt resist. ordered one too

  • When is shipping expected to start?
