Screen Type / Refresh Rate

Quick poll. Disregarding all other specs on a phone (brightness etc aswell), let's say you have 2 identical phones and the only part you can't decide between is the type of screen. Cost is the same.

Fhd LED/AMOLED panel 1080 x 2400 @ 60hz

Fhd IPS LCD capacitive 1080 x 2400 @ 90hz

Basically asking which would be your deciding point. Would you pick 90hz lcd over an led panel?

  • For an iPhone? No.

iPhone X/XS/11's OLED is far superior to the XR's LCD and wouldn't be able to go back.

This may differ for Android devices due to OS smoothness and OLED quality varying.

  • Still deciding on a phone?

    • Yep. Cracked s10+ is still kicking but also doing my head in.

  • 90hz means less battery life so I'd probably skip it. Surely there are other ways to differentiate between 2 phone models that screen tech spec alone?

  • I'd take a high refresh rate over a high resolution anyday. But I'd absolutely prefer an OLED screen over a high refresh rate screen anyday.

  • +1

have you seen in person a 90hz screen and compare with a 60hz screen? not everyone can notice the difference in refresh rate. OLED does produce deeper blacks than LCD so if you watch videos or look at photos a lot, OLED would generally look better than LCD
