Laptop for Standard Things $1,000 & under

Hi all. I'm trying to find a laptop for my sister. She just needs it for basic things. Something that will come with a CD burner.

Surfing the internet,typing up documents

Budget is $1,000 and under.

EDIT: ah sorry you need a CD burner. that's actually a pretty big restriction these days.

I think the Dell Vostro 15 series (outdated models) will still have optical disk drives. They are business machines and still carry a lot of outdated / legacy stuff, like VGA ports and disc burners.

Thinkpad E570 also had one but the current E590/595 models have completely removed the option.

USB options are probably much more practical.

Dell Latitude e6630, bit outdated but you find some on Gumtree. Great thing about it, is that you can upgrade the HDD to an SDD. Also it has a cd drive, and being a professional model the build quality and reliability is better than on consumer grade laptops.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy an external DVD burner and not be so restricted in laptop choice?
