$79 here with free shipping - https://www.centrecom.com.au/crucial-mx500-250gb-3d-nand-ssd (or $115 for the 500gb).
MX500 has a shorter expected life, the EVO 860 is exceptionally reliable, but still not something the average person would expect to have to worry about in the first 10 years after buying either drive.
Is the 860 adequate as a boot drive in a simple home NAS file server?
Edit: HP MicroServer N54L running Windows 10

These prices are nuts. I paid less for 500gb units last year. I have a pile of them ready to use. Buy a few when cheap even if you dont need them at the time.
This is SSD…
The price used to like this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/485379. Not in these days due to weaker Australian dollars I guess.
I paid $74 DELIVERED for a Crucial MX500 500GB last year :) prices for everything has gone up heaps
@ozrules This is SPARTA!… I mean SATA. ;)
Paid $85.40 for 500GB 860 EVO last December.
I hope to see these prices again one day! I should've upgraded when i had the chance
How long do you guys reckon before prices go back to the way they were? I mean, without the use of a crystal ball…
I don't desperately need to upgrade, but I want to!
Well there's a few factors… the currency isnt too good, the global demand for ssd is reasonably high given we want more laptops and desktops at home… lastly the demand for nvram is pretty damn high given smartphones have heaps of storage now AND… two consoles are coming out that have close to 1tb each…
So my view is that this price will be the new normal until all these above factors calm down.
cheers for the insight… might be worth just biting the bullet then hey. Thanks!
Demand for NAND flash*
nvram is usually a different technology entirely
Is this an external drive?
Nope, but it could be with a cradle.
Thanks.
Is there a way to make the Amazon search only show items that actually have the words you have typed?
eg. When I try to search for the Samsung 500gb 860 Evo it comes up with all sorts of brands, even usb sticks!
Or the comparable Crucial MX500 250GB for $83.69
