Xbox Game Pass (MoM) or Live Gold (12m+) Then Upgrade to Game Pass Ultimate

Hello fellow OzBargainers,
I was planning to get Game Pass activated for my XBox ($10.95 per month) and was looking at multi-month deals.
I came across an article which explained how existing subscriptions are converted like-for-like when we upgrade to Game Pass Ultimate (i.e. an active 12 month Game Pass or Live Gold subscription will automatically become a 12 month Game Pass Ultimate subscription)
Is that understanding of mine correct and if yes, does this approach still work?
In that case, I would try to get 12 or more months of Xbox Live Gold (~$80 for 12 months) stacked up and then subscribe to the $1 Game Pass Ultimate deal from Microsoft directly.

Is that a commonly used approach recommended here in OzBargain?

    Is it possible to do this if you get the Xbox Game Pass for PC and then use it for the Xbox console?

    Make sure you change your Xbox Region to Brazil and use incognito or In Private window in your browser.

      You don't have to change your region to Brazil on your Xbox - you just need to use a VPN to appear to be in Brazil when you activate the code.

    Saw this deal earlier on perusing through the Xbox Beta app. Canceled my sub (PC only) last month when my 3 months free were up.

    Thinking of joining again with this deal. Is the $1 joining fee is only good for one month then it's back to normal price after that?
