UberEATS Ordering McDonald's Hamburgers Pricing

Normally when you buy hamburgers at Maccas, it's like $1.50 in person or via their app. When I'm trying to order it through the UberEats app to get it delivered, it's priced in at $3 per hamburger. Any ideas how to go about getting it for the $1.50 price (apart from showing up in person)? If I did pay the $3, does UberEats just pocket the money difference?

Yep, they add a markup on items due to the ~30% they charge restaurants plus delivery fees on top. There's no way to avoid this.

You'll need to use McDonald's app to order pickup if you don't want to pay over price.

Ubereats doesn't have those specials in it, ever.

Ubereats takes up to 35% cut from the orders. Larger places like maccas have a slightly lower %, but still massive.

As such prices are always higher in the ubereats app for maccas than say walking into the store or going through the drive thru yourself.

I’m confused. We hear about businesses losing out on these apps however they’ve added a mark up. Where does this money go?

      Umm.. UberEats?

    • The 30-40% markup helps business make about the same as they would selling food instore.

Restaurants lose out when they have to pay out of pockets expense for food complaints, investing in the technology to establish an Uber Eats platform and also have bear the responsibility of any issues that occur with drivers delivering food (which is out of their hands).

There is an element of this, but the biggest out of pocket cost they would avoid is the marketing presence of just being on the ubereats platform. Not being on it means no one can find your tiny pizza place.

        • Agreed - that's another important point

It's non-sense. I wouldn't exactly call it a markup. They just sell food at "full price" via uber eats. In my area all the restaurants on Ubereats/deliveroo/doordash offer discounts through various channels - groupon/entertainment book/eat club/first table/mailbox flyers/etc, so lots of people are conditioned to only buying discounted food at these place.

    • Restaurants already have really thin margins, so once Uber takes their 30% they're basically selling for peanuts. Uber profits from their 30% share (because they're losing money hand-over-fist in other markets like China and SE Asia where theres more direct competition). In the end the restaurant picks up the slack and loss of revenue

Uber is a terrible company that started its operations illegally so will get none of my money. Long live Menulog.

    • What's the story behind their illegal beginnings?

@DaDollarz: they started operating a taxi service without any licencing to run a public transport service.

    • I hear menulog isn't that great either with large commission fees they charge
