Use an old fork to pry up. Spread middle prongs slightly.

Small, flat bladed screwdriver. Pop the centre portion up to unlock the clip, then get under the outer portion and pop that up to remove it.

    Edit:
I have some of these Toyota ones in my toolbox at home and went to get one. They are super easy to get out. You just depress the centre down and it will go down about 2~3mm and make a “click”. At that point, it is unlocked and the whole clip can be removed with a flat blade or by just pulling up on the outer portion of the clip.

To reset the clip, once it is removed, you can punch the centre portion back up and it will sit about 5mm above the outer portion. Reinstall the clip and gently push the clip down again until it clicks and the top is flush again.

    Edit Edit:

    Now with Pictures and sounds

      Upvoted for effort++.

      • I think this sets a new ozbargain standard.

Posters please note, all future car accident diagrams must be also submitted with pictures and sounds. Naturally, MS Paint diagram is still required.

    • I hope you get a mention in the monthly report for this. Literally the most detailed clip removal instructions I have every seen.

And the people who have posted after me, even with all my photos and a video are still posting the wrong method… obviously I did something wrong.

Maybe I needed to add more “Yo yo yo, it’s yah boi, pegaxs here, coming at you with another Toyota trim clip video…”

And don't forget to smash that like and subscribe button!

Yeah pretty amusing that they are still giving it a red hot (and incorrect), go.

Awesome. I usually end up damaging these things. Had no idea the centre could be pushed in.

      • Not all of them can. Some trim clips are like my first suggestion, those you lift the centre up first to release the lock.

This tutorial is for OP's particular kind of trim clips that are used on Toyota trims. I have left overs of these ones in my toolbox, but I don't know how far back Toyota started using them, so I cant say "all pre xxxx Toyota clips do this, post xxxx, do that…". I only know them by type.

        • Fair enough. At least next time I try first thing is to see if the centre pushes in. If not, then to the damage route.

You're going to break them most likely, just buy replacements on eBay

  • Can you just lift up the middle pin? The Rivet should release. Or just buy some from eBay, cheap and Aus stock

    They are made to re-use.
Just pry up the middle button then it should pull straight out.
Before re inserting pull the middle button out, insert the plug and depress the middle to lock it in.

  • Small screwdriver and lift pin

exactly what I used, a screwdriver to push the middle, and fingers to lift.

I know the type you mean but the one he has appears to be the type that you lift the inner pin with a screwdriver (I can use my nails) and then lift the outer.
