[Pre Order] Kogan 28" Ultra HD 4K FreeSync Monitor $329 + Delivery ($0 with Kogan First) @ Kogan

92

Cheapest 4K monitor I can find at the moment. It will be shipped on 25th May.

Pros:

  • Speaker
  • FreeSync
  • Adjustable stand with up to 20° swivel and pivot
  • VESA mount compatible
  • PIP/PBP

Cons:

  • TN Panel
  • Not So Bright

Actually, it's stated that it's a TN panel but I feel weird that its response time is 5.5ms and the viewing angle is 170 degree. It seems more like an IPS panel. If that's the case, it would be a great deal.

Great monitor been using it for awhile

Edit: nope was thinking of the other monitor

    • I think it's a newly released model.

Yeah, that's why I edited.. I was wrong

60Hz refresh rate and 5.5ms response time TN panel wow. No thanks.

    • +3

I've never seen a TN panel that has 5.5ms response time, usually 1ms. The viewing angle for a TN panel usually is 90 degrees. That's why I feel weird.

1ms peak GtG means absolutely nothing for a 60Hz monitor, you've been goaded into thinking this by marketing teams. The truth is that most 1ms monitors don't reach that point without enormous overshoot, or it's referring to 1ms MPRT via strobing the backlight.

Even today's best 240Hz panels average around 3ms with a peak of 1ms, and they have a target frame time of 4.17 ms.

      1000/60 = 16.67 ms, so I assure you that's not the issue.

The problem is that it's a crappy TN implementation.

    • sadly monitors didn't change much in the last ten years and going to a store you will realize the majority is still 1080p/1440p 60Hz crap. Especially rare to see 4K with higher refresh rates

    • Kogans response time listed wasn' grey to grey last time I checked (with that VA ultrawide).

*Not sure if they ever listed it as a difference response time measurement or if it was thanks to HWUB doing a review on it and having a far smaller response time rating.

Not that I'd recommend it regardless. A not much point in getting a 4k tn, one from a supplier as unreliable as Kogan no less (good luck if you have a dead/stuck pixel)

    TN Panel

Straight up avoid Samsung 4k TN, they are bottom of the barrel for 4k.

  • +3

OP, it's 160 degree vertically (viewing angle) - typical for TN.
60Hz TN with subpar specs. Kogan branded.

I blacklist Kogan branded TVs years ago. Looks like Kogan branded displays are still dodgy.

Agree. In fact, blacklist ALL Kogan branded. Doesn't how much cheap they are and how pretty is the photos, when it arrives you will feel paying way too much.

    Don't bother team.

  • $29 above the tax deduction threshold makes this nowhere near as good as a monitor just below $300.

    • what does this mean?

      • +1

I'd you're working from home then you can claim a tax deduction on office equipment. For anything up to $300 you can claim the full deduction in the same year. Anything over $300 is depreciated over 3 years at a 40/40/20 ratio. So if you earn $90-180k you can claim 37c in the dollar back on office equipment if you use it 100% for work. If not then it's a calculation of work usage.

        • thats assuming you use the monitor for 100% work purpose right?

        • or just use the new short cut method released by ATO

I was very disappointed when Kogan jacked up the price of their 32 inch monitors from $399 to $599. Is that a company we should trade with?

Plus those ridiculously priced tiny hand sanitizer bottles

Wait until you have a problem with your order.

I would rather try my luck with the aliexpress roulette

Price-jacking & not supporting products under Australian Consumer Guarantees legislation is a reason to avoid this dodgy company.
