[Switch] FLASHBACK - $1.50 (Was $30, 95% off) @ Nintendo eShop

810

I'm too young to remember this when it first released, but this is the 25th anniversary remaster of an apparently beloved classic. I'm keen to try it out for myself!

This game blew my mind when it came out. I'd played Prince of Persia (in CGA!) and Flashback seemed like such a leap forward in the format. They'd probably seem barely different at all if I played them now. But at the time. Phwoar.

    • So is it like Prince of Persia in terms of genre?

My dad had the "original" on his Motorola flip phone when I was a kid and I loved that shit.

      • Yeah, a sort of 2d-ish platformer with running and jumping and climbing to different levels. I also remember teleporters.

      • It’s basically like Prince of Persia meets cyberpunk. Was a great game back in the day.

      • Not really. I would compare it more to Another World or Bubba n Stix. More of a puzzle platformer than PoP.

  • How is this $30 RRP lol

Guess you haven't seen these before

Megadrive version cost $129 back in the day.

    • back in 1992

Mike Caruba! Oh wait, that's the other one.

  • Great price! bought this when it was $7.50 and haven't looked back..

      You mean flashback(ed)?

  • Thanks! I had this on Mega Drive way back when.

  • I started playing this on RetroArch yesterday, I still enjoy it. Though I did utilise a Fast Forward to speed up movement.

Got it on SNES and boy those low poly cutscenes ran like crap. Maybe it needed 'blast processing'?

  • that thumbnail….flashback to Nam

Awesome game remember playing it on the Amiga 500 with 1 MB ram!

    • Same. The soundtrack was epic

  • I wanted this for the PS4 but never this cheap

    Thanks!

Thanks OP! That is a flashback indeed. I remember buying this at K Mart in Boronia when it came out for the Mega Drive and I paid $115 for it which is an insane amount of money to pay for a game today let alone back then! Didn't have OzBargain back then.

Damn, which sucker purchased this when it was $9? Always wait lol

I used to play this when I was a kid in the early 90s.
    I also recommend Another World.

    • That should make this at least somewhat interesting to you

      • +1

only for the 2 seconds before you see the price tag

      Another World was AMAZING

    • +1

+1 Another World. the precursor to this. brings back some memories

      • I always wondered about that, they were both from Delphine, but one was Eric Chahi and the other was a team of people. While the word of mouth I heard at the time was that it was the 'sequel' of sorts, I always wondered where Eric went, and did Delphine just hit it big and think "we could get a team in to do this?"

  • So much cheaper than whatever I paid. FML. Have an upvote.

Great game, end gets quite hard though, spiritual successor to another world/out of this world which was one of the most innovative games of the era, still an amazing piece of art

OMFG… awesome game! i loved playing this when it came out. played it again a couple of years back using dosbox. still a good experience

  • +3

There was a sequel called Fade to Black which was also pretty cool.

  • so good!

  • Oh my, can I upvote 100 times? Haven't even thought about this game in a decade but looking at it now gives me goosebumps. Downloading now!
