Maybe store/state specific?In Sydney Metro 3 Star mince even before Wu Flu was hovering around $10-11/KG. Even Aldi edged up to 9.99 KG in the bulk 2 KG packs.
Normally $10+/kg. Hasn't been $8/kg for about 2 years.
My local was most recently $10.50/kg which is the 'normal' price. Went down to $7 a week ago and yesterday I got some packs for about $4.50/kg and they had a lot of them. They had best by 1 May but I froze them anyway.
Seems to be few sales like this meat/mince I got 5 star extra lean beef mince today at coles $6.1kg they had plenty of stock 4211 post code.

Coming up for me as 500g mince is $3, $1kg mince is $5. Limit of 2 per order I think, not sure if the purchase limit still applies in store.

$7 for 1kg at Westfield Woolies stores I checked in Brisbane.
Westfield Coomera had them for $3 for 1 kg . Grabbed a few for the freezer. They even had pork mince 500grams for $3.50 and grabbed a few as well…

But too far to drive for a special that may be long gone.@INFIDEL: it seems as though a few coles and woolies overstocked on a few items. Coles Coomera West had Steggles whole chicken for $2.80 a kilo…half the price of what aldi sells their small whole chickens for.

OP's prices not showing here, plus they don't make sense; why would 1kg have a higher per kg price than 500g?

It was $7/kg at my local today, which is still a discount from the usual price. Haven't had a bad run at Woolies lately, picked up some chicken breasts from the Deli yesterday for $5.40 per kg. They seem quite fresh, there was a huge queue of people swarming around the Deli and the staff were bringing more and more boxes out from the cool room.

This will be store specific, my store was selling 1kg packs for $2 tonight. The panic buying has led to an oversupply of meat through most stores and as a result just about every store has too much stock that just isn't selling fast enough.
So the supermarkets started to panic buy?
