Woolworths brand Baby Wipes recalled over the Weekend in NZ but still available in OZ

What are your thoughts? Our governments response as reported in the papers is that quote, "They were making inquiries as to whether the products were available in Australia".

Apart from the obvious stupidity in that phrase, the bigger question is How long has this product been on the shelf and Why has it come to affray all of a sudden.

Given the authorities less than confident response, who's responsibility is it to make sure products entering OZ are safe to use.

    You sound surprised.

Woolies, like Coles, is only after the $$$. They have now missed their chance to show some integrity, and if they are removed from the shelves anytime from now on, it will only be to save face.

Not surprised at all, but I could ring their necks if they knowingly kept these things on the shelves given the identified health risks to minors.

If indeed it is a labelling error (thanks to Jabba the Hutt) then it is with no surprise that they have refused to recall the items and would much rather clear them out on "Special" in their latest catalogue until pushed by authorities or the public to remove them.

This story suggests it was later clarified to be a labelling issue.

Seems a bit like a peanut/milk allergy recall turned on its head. Regarding the regulation question, I recall this program giving some 'insight' into how that works :D

    • As I suspected we're all guinea pigs and doomed for existence! while our brave bastion of 'regulators' sit and point their proverbials at one another.

Thanks for the link Jabba the Hutt, will check it out when I get home.

  • | A spokeswoman for Woolworths said yesterday it would not be withdrawing the baby wipes from Australian stores as they understood the chemical ''wasn't of concern'' among Australian health authorities.

Ok so the kiwi babies are better then our babies aye. They should be safe and we tolerate this thing.

    • There are a barrage of Government bodies, yet none of the them is prepared to stand up and do something about it ??

      • maybe cos they are sterile and don't have babies of their own.
