It's also $70 at kogan delivered

  • How is this flavour wise? I am not a beer fan so not looking for something that is beer with a ginger twist… but I also don't want a sickeningly sweet soft drink beer.

Any ozb reviews so I can be lazy and not research elsewhere?

    • +3

its' pretty sweet from memory - but very more-ish ….

      • Cheers, might give it a miss. I like face punchy ginger and still yet to quite find the right one. Only great one I have had was from a stall at Salamanca Markets nearly a decade ago.

        • +4

If you're looking for punch check out Royal Jamaican Ginger Beer. It's the complete opposite of Brookvale in terms of punch.

          • +1

@C0123: That looks right up my alley. Will check it out. Thanks.

          • +1

@C0123: Royal Jamaican is the bomb. Only problem is finding it anywhere at the moment! At this point I regret not buying a full case last time I saw it.

            • +1

@Srey: Super hard to find. I know of one place in Brisbane that sells it. I also recommend Ginger Joe for a similar taste.

              • @lucyrenegade: Yeah Ginger Joe is nice too, but it's also 8% isn't it? Not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely harder to sit on a few of them without really feeling it.

I tried Zeffer ginger beer the other day, it was nice but definitely not as awesomely spicy as the Royal. Well more expensive too.

      • Sweet and also just ginger flavoured if I recall correctly… essentially Ginger cordial with alcohol added.

        • Description from DM

"Australian ginger from the Australian ground (good ground), ensure things like real ginger cream and natural base products are used to create a great tasting, refreshing beverage, perfect when you don't feel like drinking beer or wine. Complex yet simple, safe but dangerous, smooth yet sharp, tight but loose. That's Brookvale Union."

Sounds like real ginger to me?

          • @Jofzar: Also on the back it says fresh ginger so yeah.

            • @Jofzar: Yes, real ginger might be present, but if Alcohol is listed separately in the Ingredients, then it's Ginger cordial plus alcohol, not Ginger syrup that has been fermented.
If my memory is correct, then it's a cheap RTD sold at a premium pricepoint.

    • I used to drink this in the pub in the olden days of going to the pub: I've not had it out of the bottle but I'm tempted. Nice with ice and lime. It is fairly sweet but I'm not sure where your threshold for "sickeningly" sweet it.

    • +1

I'd say it's rather sweet. Bit more than mild sweetness, but not overpowering.

    • +1

Me too. But this tastes great. More like a good ginger beer that happens to be alcoholic

  • Thanks, I missed out last time. Picked this one up.

You cannot use both 'PIZZA5' and 'POUR5' - it is either one or the other.

    • Yes 'alternatively' meaning eBay plus users can use either or.

      • 'alternatively eBay Plus users can use POUR5 for $5 off as well.'

I read this as you could use both, just commenting that you can't.

        • is this an instance of the oxford comma changing the meaning of the sentence?

          • @damion: No, it's the addition of the unnecessary "as well"

  • Also, not sure if regional differences are in play but I have different pricing (but still more expensive) for the other places. DM $90.99, BWS $92, LL $83, 1CL $86.

    • +1

Most regional customers cannot buy this deal.

      Excludes:
      - Northern Territory, QLD Far North, QLD Regional, QLD South East,
      - SA Regional, Tasmania, WA Regional, WA Remote, PO Box

      • Newcastle here. Regional rated without being really regional, I guess.

    Matsos > Brookvale Union

    • +1

Lick Pier > Matsos > Brookvale Union

      (In my opinion!) :)

  • +1

This is my favourite ginger beer. I picked up a case from liquorland last night with the cashback and code for about $55 so delighted.

  • +2

Id go Brookvale over Matsos every time even if matsos wasnt a mid strength.

  • I understand this is brewed in Manly NSW but is shipped from Victoria.
Why would CUB truck this from NSW to Victoria and then truck it back to NSW to ship to my door? Doesn't make much sense to me!

    • Mate why stop there, they should just offer click and collect straight off the production line.

    • +2

It's CUB truck aged. The cargo hold imparts a nice steely flavour.

  • how fast do they deliver ?

    • Depends where you are located. The last 2 shipments from CUB took 2 weeks for me (Metro Sydney)

      • They won't deliver to me here in Noosa

Land and sea locks brewery has a ginger beer with free delivery however so all good

  • Anyone got theirs yet? I had expected delivery being the 29th but the tracking info doesn't show any movement of the package yet.
