Soap would kill Covid, I assume this would have some kind of detergent to kill it too
No, soap simply allows the virus to wash off. Alcohol kills it.
That's not quite right either, but I could be wrong too! Covid 19 is coated in a lipid membrane (basically, a layer of fat). Washing your hands thoroughly with soap breaks down the fat, rendering the virus useless :) plus yes it helps wash it off too.
Happy to stand corrected!!
Actual Soap deactivates the Virus and is actually proven more effective than hand sanitisers. Soap breaks down the bi-lipid layer of the Virus coating rendering the RNA useless as it's broken down.
Tonight I’ll sleep slightly less stupid thanks to you
Surely they can't claim antibacterial if it doesn't kill microbes? I'm no expert…
But it's a virus and not bacteria right? They make no claims on the product's effectiveness on viruses.
Yep. I stand corrected. Looks like these do nothing against coronavirus. So glad I did a little reading after only buying 1 pack…
Why do people think the only thing that kills germs is alcohol? Soap is better than alcohol, soap is irreplaceable, alcohol based cleaners are just second best.
Cause most people don't know. I didn't know about this till the virus hit. These companies non-stop advertise that these products kill 99% of germs. I never seen any soap company advertising that. I guess people people just assume soap is for smell or something idk.
Viruses are not bacteria though.
I've got these wipes - the active ingredient is benzalkonium chloride.
Both Dettol and Pine O Cleen wipes use this (both fall under Reckitt Benckiser group anyway).
Benzalkonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium, and as a general consensus has LIMITED effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2. Among many others, a notable study in February published in the Journal of Hospital Infection showed this (peer reviewed journal with impact factor 3.35).
In that regard, I'd probably just recommend mixing up a 1:39 dilution of household bleach (typically 4% concentration) to spray and disinfect surfaces. Make it a bit stronger if your bleach has been lying around a while. Cheap, easy and wide application over a large surface. You have to make sure it's freshly mixed though.
Ultimately, the most effective biocidal agents against SARS-CoV-2 are:
1 pack maximum
I'd buy it but the Mrs will kill me if another thing comes to the door from Amazon.
That's why I tell them to leave the boxes outside, then you can open them and bring the stuff inside in a subtle way.
Unfortunately, I have two dachshunds that love to snitch on me as soon as someone is in close proximity to the door.
You know what you gotta do to snitches right?
Another dog pack where the dogs control the pack behavior.
@Diji1: Unfortunately yes. Both adopted and dachshunds aren't the easiest to housebreak due to their independent nature. Working on it though!
Over the weekend at my local Coles, I found the Coles branded 100-pack of wipes for $3.50 with plenty of stock around mid-day even with people allowed to buy 2 of them as well. Seems like stock levels are slowly returning… small packs like this just aren't worth it!
Got the same in VIC.
Stock is there just the people that have it need to stop buying more if they don't have to.
I cannot wait for an oversupply of hand sanitisers, wipes and other cleaning products. It will be a nice bargain season.

$2.49 for 15 wipes. Geeeez
Only 15 wipes in the pack? Would last less than a day in my house.
These are a handy bag or pocket size that I have been buying for years. If the wipes are not available with the shopping trolleys I have been using these too. Won't be buying any though as postage kills the deal.
Do these kill COVD-19? Don't see any alcohol in ingredients.
