Auspost Driver Picks Packages for Delivery - but Skips Us in His Route for 2 Days Now :(

For the past 2 days he's been picking up packages for delivery - but instead of actually doing anything with ours packages , he just seems to hold them, won't try to deliver or hand to the post office.

What the heck :(?

Did you leave easter eggs out for them before?

    • god damnit, I suppose I deserve it.

  • I am not quite sure what the issue is here

Scans are not happening in a lot of cases so the parcel tracking wont update until the day it is onboard for delvery.

Auspost has a huge backlog of orders and have been advising delays of up to a week in a lot of cases.

    • You actually didn't get the problem then.
The packages made it allllll their way to my town, the driver PICKED up the packages.
      He's GOT the packages.

He's SKIPPING us all together and won't bring us the packages that are ONBOARD FOR DELIVERY.

That is one i would def raise with auspost.

thats super weird… skipping you altogether is very odd especially if the parcel is on board

        • Yap.

Typically has a certain time they arrive , been very strict with the hours they show up - just didn't show upyesterday, or today, they pickup more packages for us and more say onboard for delivery, they still won't deliver…

          I have :(

I'm just trying to find a reason of what could it be that stops them from actually just putting it by my door or giving it to the post office?…

          So weird.

          • @The Milk Man: Have you rung aus post?

            • @Randxyz123: Can you even call auspost? I've been having trouble for over a week and can only find online forms to fill that never get any response…

      • hope about saying that in the original post ;)

  • My postie delivers daily but my international brodens only come once a week. I was told it was due to sorting overtime being reduced during covid.

    • He's been around daily before :( kinda odd.

Auspost are being absolutely inundated right now.

Quick question - are the packages you're waiting for large and/or heavy?

Auspost contractors get paid per delivery. I'd hazard a guess a lot of contractors (even if not the one you're dealing with) and prioritising delivery over mass amounts of smaller and lighter email as they get paid more this way. Late delivery of 1 or 2 packages large, heavy packages is a drop in the ocean in comparison.

Also keep in mind Auspost have stopped all tracking systems. He may not even have the packages and it's reported wrong online.

    • They're never like, letter-sized. Typically
a BOX. small-med up to large ones.

    • Day 3 of my express parcel not being delivered…they must be getting smashed.

      • Get the sender to claim the postaage cost back.

    • I received an express post parcel last friday which fully tracked. Trouble was that it showed on board for delivery for just under 24hrs but they are refunding postage cost to sender for not delivering in their guaranteed time.

  • It might be "lost", ask the post office, you might need to apply for compensation.

It's either $50 or $100 maximum depending on if it was registered.

    • How does compensation work please? Any tips or experience with it?

I submitted feedback on the your parcel has been delivered email saying no it hasn't and where is it and they told me it had, delivery person was sent back to check and eventually advised that they delivered to wrong address and it was gone. Too bad we can't find it, go back to the sender and see what they do about lost deliveries.

      • Unfortunately only sender can claim this, so yeah all you can do is go back to seller and hope they'll follow through for you. Of course Paypal claims will get you nowhere since they'll just see it's been delivered and that will be the end of it, but in this case you want to give the seller a chance to sort it out anyway as it's clearly Ausposts fault.

(Luckily there are some good sellers out there, for example one where I paid extra for express post, didn't arrive within time frame so I asked seller to claim on Austpost guarantee on my behalf which they did and refunded my postage)

        • Thanks for that, will definitely follow up with them.

They have different delivery methods for different items… One might deliver but others won't.

    • This happened in my area recently (maybe 6-8 weeks ago). Smallish letter parcels now come my postie on bike, before it was a motorbike or van.

He's probably waiting for your car not to be in the driveway so he knows it's safe to drop a missed delivery card.

      oh god. Of course.
I'll cover it with leaves he'll never suspect a thing.

  • Auspost Driver Picks Packages for Delivery - but Skips Us in His Route for 2 Days Now :(

You've seen him drive past your house two days in a row? Is he holding them in his hand and taunting you also?

Maybe he just left them in his other van?

    • +1

Haven't seen him AT all actually, he used to visit daily! same time every day! suddenly POOF , won't even leave a note.

      Perhaps kidnapped.

      No idea tbh.
We used to receive them VERY early , like, an hour after picked up from facility - which is odd since suddenly won't show up ALL day long :(

      • +2

Had that happen to me, you get that when a new driver takes on the delivery route messes up the schedule.

        • +2

          ahuh, that's…actually insightful.
I could care less if he actually comes through, but why keep the packages and not hand them to the post office? :(
          That's just crude.

          • @The Milk Man: I got a parcel at present that came to the local Auspost distrubtion centre on last Friday which has not been delivery yet.
            Go figure.

            • @chrisie: Theory confirmed, Detective.

One parcel delivered, the rest are still "onboard" - the guy completely ignored delivery instructions and shoved a gigantic cylinder into a tiny mailbox on a CBD Street, and ran to his car asap - even tho I approached the door as soon as he put it in.

God damnit I really liked my delivery driver! I don't want a new one :(

The driver is either inundated with parcels which makes sense because everyone seems to be buying online, or there's a new driver who is still trying to learn their route. My understanding is that unless they actually get to your house and see that you're not home and leave the card they don't take it to your post office. He may just not have gotten the chance to get to your street. Check with your neighbours if you can to see that they have gotten parcels too, if you can. If they haven't then its's probably either of the above.

These drivers don't just pick up your parcel from the depo and bring them to you directly, they have 150-300 parcels they're meant to deliver per day so they are trying to maximise their efficiency too so that they can get paid as much as possible. Their patch can be like 1000 houses.

Due to COVID-19 there had been a huge increase in volume as more people are ordering online even the things they would have otherwise gone and bought at a shop. As a result it is quite likely the driver has a lot more packages than what he would have normally delivered during his daily run. I myself am waiting for a package that was picked up yesterday from the depot and even the online tracking said it would be delivered yesterday and it didn't happen. And today at the time of writing this comment it still hasn't turned up so it may very well be tomorrow when I get to see my package.

I think this is the new norm or at least till COVID is behind us.

      • "Due to COVID-19 there had been a huge increase in volume as more people are ordering online"
Actually since they stopped "Cashback" at Amazon my buying has fallen away quite a bit. I'd say most "OzBargain buyers" would have dropped buying quite a lot as well as there are not as many bargains to be had of late.
Than again Toilet Paper does take up a huge volume in a van so many more trips to the depot and less time to deliver for less profit.

        • You know a lot of dummies out there have no idea what the average Ozbargainer does, so is still buying big…😀

          • @RockyRaccoon: What have we got clueless dummies on OzBargain …….

        • My most recent deliveries have been delivered by "Amazon" and not Australia Post.

  • I bet you forgot to give him an xmas gift. It's not too late to buy him something and pretend your wife forgot to give it to him. A $50 note in a Christmas card should do it.

Been buying dodgy stuff? Probably waiting for the cops to give the go ahead for it to be dropped off so they can arrest whoever accepts the delivery.

    • Lol, right.
And then the swat will come raining from my roof and the sirens and the doggies.

Maybe different driver. When our regular postie delivers everything gets delivered, he's brilliant at his job and really customer focused. When he's not on, it's a disaster!

    • Yes!
The regular guy would go to such lengths to make sure everything's fine, would even position my empty bins in such way they'll protect packages.
Understood where's the safe zone and where's NOT safe.

      I miss them already :(

Someone delivered a parcel really really early today, placed them perfectly. Not sure if the OGs back or if the understudy knows their job better…

Still no sign for the ONBOSRD FOR DELIVERY packages.

Keep an eye out for when he is in the area.
Usually they come at the same time.

When you see him drive past make sure you are standing out the front and shake your fist at him.

  • Same here, I was just about to post a thread to complain as I had my 5th parcel in a row taken to post office for pick up without a card left.

I live in an apartment and I've been redundant for two months and I'm home all day but postie never tried to ring my intercom which is very frustrating. I had DHL and Toll delivered parcels to me without any issues but I just can't why Auspost do the same?

I've complained to them both on phone and online but nothing changed, anyone had successfully changed things around by take it further to ombudsman?

    • THEY'RE scared of apartment-corona.

  • Based on CCTV, my postie doesn't seem to deliver Mondays and Fridays. Cost cutting or sneaky operation?

  • They're flat out. I had a parcel delivered today. It arrived at 5:30pm. They guy showed me his tablet - he had 83 more to do. I have no idea how he is going to complete that.

  • Funnily enough Google popped up this article on my phone today…
