[Resolved] Micro SIM to Nano SIM Conversion

Ok I have upgraded phones, but the new phone slot requires a nano SIM card. What are my options if I don't want to cut up my micro SIM from the existing phone as I do still have data on that card I think that will need to be transferred to new phone.

Can I just get a new nano SIM from the same mobile network and will that just automatically use the same mobile number or will I need to port the old number over to that card. Is it possible to still use the old phone with the old card on the same number. No nothing about these things.

  Did you mean Micro SIM to Nano SIM? Mini SIM cards are the size of the ones you got 15 years ago. The only data you’d have on it would be phone numbers and perhaps a few text messages.

  You can ask your network to transfer the mobile number onto a blank Nano SIM card. No you can’t use the old SIM card on the old phone with the same number if you’ve moved the number to a new SIM

  You can buy cutting kits for a few bucks on eBay to trim the micro to nano size. Or Telstra shops can cut it for you, probably others as well.

  Or get a new SIM from your provider. With Telstra it's free, dunno about others.

  Depending on the provider, you should be able to get a replacement sim for your new handset. This can be done online or in store.
  IIRC, you can buy another $2 sim, call up customer service and ask to have your number put on that sim card.

    Went to Optus store. Mate you'll have to come back in 30min, we will notify you. Oh. By the way I am with Virgin Mobile. We don't deal with Virgin Customers you'll have to ring Virgin Mobile. Mate. Optus own Virgin. All I need is a new nanosim for my new phone. So your saying I have to call and wait for a new sim. CS guy then says ill have a look in the back. Oh. Suddenly he comes back with a 3 in 1 sim card with Virgin on it. What a joke. Said thanks. Stil had to call Virgin CS when I got home. The guy was in my face. Thought there was social distancing. All working now. Once they told me I needed to back up anything on sim. Number transferred to the new sim within hour. All good. Thanks to all that commented.

    I think when I was coming from one of the other sim sized I did do the template/ cutting it to site to fit.

      They truly are brain dead dingbats. This is why I bought my own sim cutter. I was just using a razor knife and a cutting board and a template sim before I got the cutter.
