Best Printers for Small Business

The world of printers seems convoluted & confusing realm, and I'm hoping someone here has been able to make sense of it.

I looking for two duplex colour printers, that have decent colour & speed

One that is an all in one, that has scanner feeder & can be connected to a network & good compatibility with Mac, primary one user 5 to 30 pages a day, but needs to be responsive & have good colour.

Another that's just a printer, networked, for the whole office to use 50 to 300 pages a day, with decent colour & speed

Budget for each is $400 to $2000, whatever price point provides the best value/quality

Having low running cost would be a bonus, but ultimately I would put speed, responsiveness & colour ahead of that.

Thanks for your help

  • HP LaserJet Pro series with the high yield toners. I would also suggest getting a care pack for extended warranty from HP.

Edit: Have you thought about a contract with xerox? they also do contracts for their smaller machines. Repairs and toner included and we just pay for black and white 0.006pp and 0.06pp for colour.

Those rates are quite good. I'm guessing your company has a decent print volume or multiple copiers.

        Yes to both.

  • PS: Most inkjet printers print perfectly fine/legibly on their "fast" or "draft" setting, which will double or triple the yield per cartridge. FYI ;)

We bought Oki laser MFP printers for work (also small business) on recommendation - MC362dnw (this was about 5 years ago though). This choice was partly due to needing extra trays for different coloured paper. With the high yield toners they run cheaply enough. Quality had always been good. They have done tens of thousands (70k on one alone) of prints with no issues. Only thing to consider with laser printers is the cost of replacement fuser units and belt units. Have never had issues with computer connection to it (both PC and mac). I have found mac's are generally easier these days with working with printers.
The brother laser printers seem to be popular and touted as cheap around OzB especially when paired with generic toners.
The other thing to do is to speak to your local printer business centre, ie. Fuji Xerox or office choice. We wanted a3 capability so are renting a full size copier. We pay $20 a week for rental, then per page (about 5c for b&w and 14c for colour or something). This then includes all toners, belt/fusers and paper. We have a full set of new toners for if one runs out, then when one does run out they drop a new one to us. They also do setup and help with connection if needed as part of this and if the thing dies they will put a new one there!
