Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle Lego

Hi, I'm planning on buying the Hogwarts castle lego set for my wife's upcoming birthday. Currently target have it on sale for $499 but sold out in all stores and online. I have tried calling them asking about more stock but no one knows. Other retailers and eBay are all from $650 and above. Can anyone else suggest if I can price match somewhere or anything else? Or do i have to suck it up and pay the $650?

Use BrickHawk to locate lowest price (both current and historical). Use Brickingaround to check current Lego sales in Australia. These are not comprehensive, but are a good starting point. EBay can have some very good prices (from small sellers) if you're happy to take the risk. I feel that eBay's buyer protection policy + PayPal's return delivery refund policy combine to make eBay purchases quite safe (I.e. its hard to make counterfeit LEGOs and fake ones are always obvious) I've bought a brand new Lego X-Wing from a small seller for $80 using an eBay discount code (price everywhere else was $110 at least).

    • Just checked BrickHawk. It looks like you're out of luck. Only places left selling the castle are going for $650. You could consider giving your wife a nice homemade card stating "one coupon valid for LEGO set of your choice!".

You could inquire with Rick James Bricks. Price on the website is $560 with stock due in May, although whether that availability is a lock these days would be up in the air I imagine. Could be worth an inquiry.

That's a tremendous name for a lego store.

+1. Rick is amazing and has helped me source LEGO in the past even if it meant not buying from him. In these times I would, without a doubt, pay more for LEGO directly from him than going to somewhere cheaper like Kmart or Target.*

*though my job is secure so if it wasn’t it could be a different story.

  • If the official RRP is $650 and its out of stock on the lego website but available elsewhere for $650 - I think you should be using all the money you've saved elsewhere to buy this item for your wife.

    • I'm actually surprised that anyone buys LEGO from the official website… it's just so much cheaper everywhere else. And I can use discounted gift cards to get an additional 5% off! Of course, places like Big W, Target, Kmart, etc don't seem to restock models once they've run out of their first/second batches of stock (even though the model hasn't been retired by LEGO)…

The only reasons I can see for buying directly from LEGO is for exclusives or if you want to buy it the day it's released. Or if the VIP points somehow save you a lot of money (I've not looked into this, but I don't want to unnecessarily lock myself into buying more LEGO, which is what VIP points apparently do).

      Thoughts anyone?

      • VIP Points are worth essentially nothing. It works to around a 5% discount… The only time I think it would be beneficial to buy from lego.com is when double points and a gift with purchase is available.

Aye. My thoughts exactly on VIP points. I would much rather buy from Big W, Target, Myer, etc as I can already get 5% discount via giftcards AND I can return the items easily if I have a change of mind (I typically buy and keeps them forever before opening.. I'm weird that way haha)

  • check Kmart online shops just bought few minutes ago $599

  • Op still looking for this set?
