Gift for Wife

Hi all

Looking for a gift for my wife coming up in a month. We have a 2 nd little one coming soon at the same time but i want to make sure she’s not forgotten. Gone through abit of stress lately with losing my job, business having to close and her being a healthcare worker as well. With the 2nd one we will be pretty much isolating anyway throughout winter so thinking of ideas that can make her comfy.

Thanks

A massager. Use only as directed. If symptoms persist, see a professional.

    Misleading title lol

Your post is a tad confusing. If this is for your wife then promise to do all the housework. Costs nothing and it is what she would most appreciate.

      Yep confusing.

So do we recommend a blonde rinse for a blonde, or large box of chocs for somone on a diet.

Ran a business but has no idea on details. Got to wonder.

Being Cruel, yes, but the OP needs to realise you're unlikely get any good ideas without some more details.

      Garbage in Garbage out.

    • That's a given though considering Op said she's pregnant and still working, while he's not.

      • You would think so, wouldn't you? The reality might be different.

  • Birthday gift?

  • DIAB

Take the kids out for an hour or two a day to let her rest, she'll appreciate it.

    A new mower.

A nice robe/dressing gown for winter?

She sounds special to you. That's worth more than any gift.

I suppose the greatest gift is forgetting all your troubles. For example, when you come home from a hard day's work, there's probably nothing worse than dealing with a low pressure vacuum cleaner. Perhaps a Dyson waiting for her on the doorstep could be a much appreciated surprise.

Sometimes the little things can help as well. When I saw my ex-wife struggling with a huge load of dishes, I secretly went out and got her the expensive dish washing liquid. When she finally joined me in a bed after vacuuming the kids' mess and preparing their lunches, I had a peek at the clock and she was 5 minutes earlier than usual!

No wonder after that most generous gift, she's your ex.

Lol my thought too. You went to bed while she did the work

  • Love coupons.

In all seriousness though, I’d ask/probe for (hehe) what she wants.
Time are tough and you wouldn’t waste money on something she didn’t want.

96 piece spanner and socket set.

    • No cable ties?

      • they always come with cable ties.

  • I'll give you a chicken burrito for her.

    Interesting responses so far…
If you haven't gotten any suggestions from her personally; as a fellow HCW I suggest a care package including a new dressing robe (nothing beats changing into a fluffy blanket after a long shift and shower), her favourite snacks, a massage (from yourself given the times we are in…), anything hobby related she hasn't bought as a splurge for herself, a from-the-heart letter

    • Absolutely. Spoil herself things to make her feel special. She definitely will need a morals boost by then. Picnic in the back yard - if you have one

  • Snapon seat covers.

  • Toilet paper

  • If it was my wife, she would probably ask for breakfast in bed, fresh flowers from the garden and that I serenade her while she eats. She wouldn't want me to spend money buying her a gift knowing that money is tight.

Ask her what she wants? That's the best way to ensure that she's not disappointed on the day.

    • Are you, absolutely, sure on the serenade bit?

I agree with the money tight bit. The peace of mind of not drowning in debt beats a gift that sits in the cupboard gathering dust.

      • I was in a band in high school :D I've also volunteered as a music teacher in a special school for many years. I 'm currently enrolled in the Master of Music Therapy course at Melb uni. Starting next semester :)

The rona might throw a spanner in the works though.

Best of luck with the studies. We have a friend whose son plays Trombone, he just got a part scholarship to study in Boston. I think that might go on ice for a while too.

          • @try2bhelpful: Whatever happens, I'm going back to uni next semester. My employer is paying for it as part of my re-training package . What I study though will depend on our financial status post-covid. Music therapists aren't in demand in Mtius and it will be more of a hobby than a career - something to do while the kids are at school and the missus is working. It is also a very cruisy course.
If our nest egg is compromised post-covid, I'll transfer into the DPT/physio course. Slightly more demanding but has way better career prospects in Mauritius. Not sure how we'll manage with 4 kids ( my half-sister is moving with us at the end of May), my wife working full-time and my studying full-time though but we'll figure it out.

            • @[Deactivated]: Do you think you will be able to travel, come (what) May?

Kids are pretty resilient. Mum and Dad had five kids in eight years and Mum went back to work when my little brother was seven; when we were younger we had a friend of my mother’s look after us after school. When we got a little older my sister and I were expected to prep the veggies, and put them on, so mum could finish off when she got home. Between all of you I’m sure you won’t have too many problems. I think the kids are going to have a ball. I am very jealous.

When you get to Mauritius I might be PMing you to get some spices sent back.

              • @try2bhelpful: Re: traveling, I don't know.
We originally applied for adoption but this was denied in favour of kinship caring. Her mother is really struggling to cope with being a widow and a single mum. We may have to go back to court and push harder for full adoption. I will have to fly to Japan for the hearing and hopefully, once she's legally our child, she'll be allowed to fly back with us.

When you get to Mauritius I might be PMing you to get some spices sent back.

                Sure :)

@[Deactivated]: Certainly best of luck. Sounds like a family unit that has it together.

                  • @try2bhelpful: The kids have been teaching my half-sister some sega moves whenever we get to catch up with her over viber. She is quite the natural! Some day, soon, we'll all be together dancing to the sound of ravanne drums and maravanne, around a bonfire , on a Mauritian beach, at sunset . It'll be worth it :D

  • Get hired, get a new job. Your family needs financial security now. IMHO best gift for your wife.
