Looking for Laptop ~ $800 Range

I am looking for a laptop which will last me for at-least 4 years and decent battery life so more inclined to business/enterprise laptops and am after some suggestions from the community.

  • Processor has to be minimum 8th gen i5 processor or 10th gen i3 processor or a decent 7th gen AMD processor
  • 14" form factor for portability and better battery life
  • Won't be used for gaming
  • 8GB RAM
  • SSD drive

Can anyone tell me how much would it cost to add extra SSD storage or is it better to come with SSD and upgrade cheaper on HDD. What is the average price for 128 GB SSD in AUD? Does it matter which brand it is?
Same with RAM, open to something cheap with 4 GB ram if i can add extra 8 GB RAM space

I've heard that Inspiron series have a poor battery life. And Lenovo seems to have poor build quality and screen quality. HP seems to over heat alot. And ACER and ASUS not that reliable brands. Been looking mainly at Dell laptops as I feel they are more reliable than HP and better screens than Lenovo. I know probly these specs are hard to get for a new laptop, I've looked at the option of refurbished but they seem to be going at at-least 700 for these specs at DELL outlet and uncertainty on what I'm buying into. Any suggestions ?

Here are some which I have shortlisted:

    • But that's a Ryzen

  • Acer is perfectly fine. I honestly do not understand how they got such a bad rap. I sold technology for years and I can tell you truthfully that I didn't have problems with Acers coming back any more than the others. I personally think they've always offered great value for the money.

Now Asus is another story. I've always liked their desktop boards, but man were there issues with their laptops….

HP—- I'd use it for a doorstop. Over-heating and underwhelming.

Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, & Acer are all fine. However, if you can, try to spend a bit more to get out of the low-end builds.

I run an Acer Aspire 5 (excellent), my son has an Acer, & my daughter has her Yoga 430. No issues.
