Current deal is for the preorder - forgot to put that in initially, oops!

I've gotten word through the flashlight scene that there's a discount on a new EDC light that's on pre-order, as well as a slight discount on buying more than one - the Meote FM1. Quad emitters, copper head to help heat dissipation, aux LEDs, up to ~5000lm for the 6500K XPL HI (real lumens, not those cheap "80,000,000 lumen" lights), although I'll wait until I get one to test in my tube. I'd assume that's with a Sony VCT5A or similar.

Please note I've tried to add GST and shipping into the prices; apologies if it's slightly wrong.

Current price as advertised is $109.44 inc cheapest shipping and GST (although no shipping insurance); coupon takes that to $79.43 (around 27.4% discount).

There's also a slightly cheaper price for bulk:

  • Buy 2, get them for $67.39 ea (total $151.79 inc GST and shipping) - code is BGCP2PCS
  • Buy 3, get them for $63.01 ea (total $211.46 inc GST and shipping) - code is BGCP3PCS

Coupons expire on the 15th of May.

Happy to wax technical - I've been looking into this light a bit recently.

  • These are toys.

If you want a torch look elsewhere, e.g olight.
May have to pay just a few more dollars and you will get something decent.
    Just my opinion

    • +5

Fair enough - depends what you want it for. Personally I don't want any of the Olights because they seem committed to sticking to 6500K 70CRI with extremely few exceptions. For something to use a bit more as a "daily" light, a warmer light is nicer (4000-5000K).

      To each their own, though!

      • Agreed that 4000-5000k range my preference

      • Could. Not. Agree. More.

  • which one do you recommend to get?

    LH351D 5000K
    SST20 4000K
    XPL HI 6500K

I travel to communication towers during daylight often but might need to squeeze into dark places to take photos and crawl through rooftops , shelters and corridors.

Out of the three I'd go LH351D. The SST20 is 95 CRI vs the LH351D being 90CRI, but you're more likely to get a "green" tint at low brightnesses from the SST20, and it's a "throwier" LED - the LH351D is more "flood", so it'll light up more around what you're looking at as well.

You'll need an 18650 battery and charger if you don't already have one; the Samsung 30Q is a good blend of power and longevity.

    • I'd say this is too much light for that, no need for this for small places.

  • Is this zooming unit? Can't seem to see anything regarding that

    • +1

Nope - no zoom on this.

  • Large and bulky quad with yet another FET+1 driver. Heavy with the copper head version (144g without battery). But also peak beam intensity of 8500cd @5k lumens sounds awfully low compared other quads. The full aluminum version only uses Narsil instead of Anduril and is also missing RGB AUX LEDs.

What are your thoughts on this light oweban?

    • +1

Was hoping you'd pop in :)

      My feelpinions:

It's similar to a D4v2 in regards to being a Quad FET+1, but with a copper slug at the head (so like the Ti, sans Ti) - I haven't seen what optic they're using yet; it doesn't quite look like a Carclo 106xx, so the cd rating is a bit up in the air. The Alu version could most likely be flashed to Anduril, but I guess it depends on driver design; IIRC it's possible to extract a .hex from an Attiny so it could be uploaded and flashed direct (although that's more for hardcore users; won't be many who'll buy a USBASP and SOIC8 clip).

I do want to get my hands on one to round out the collection a bit and give it a thorough review. Might have to ask some people nicely.

edit:: But as an EDC I'm not particularly fussed with cd - 8500cd is "181m" or so, so even if it's only useable to 1/4 that (given the whole 1 lux thing at range), 45m is more than enough for myself in 99% of situations. I keep my D1 in my bag for more ;)

      • The product description lists Copper, titanium and aluminum under the materials section though I haven't been able to find where the materials are being used respectively except copper. Maybe Cu head, Al body and Ti clip? idk

but yea you're likely right about the flashing point. I just don't understand where the FM1 provides value over existing lights in the market past the design aspect which is sorta unique. I guess the design is the main selling feature

and yea I don't think I can miss that D18 pp haha

        • There’s definitely other things on the market in the niche, but it came across my attention so I thought I’d pop it in to make a contribution in case anyone was interested :)

I might hit up freeme and ask for a rundown on materials…

  • In compact multi-leds, already have a FW3A, S41, S43, S43S, D4 & PL47. What will this quad give me? 18350 tube?

    • Copper heatsinking on the head and aux LEDs :) Also Anduril, if you don't have it on your D4.

  • I highly doubt this does 5000lumens. Single battery and small enclosure,my soda can flashlight gets hot in like 5mins when on turbo 8000lm claimed level. This will get hot to touch in under a min easily or blow the battery if not rated high enough.

    • The copper heatsink will help a lot in this light. You will get Stepdown after a little while of course like any light in this category. Either way voltage sag will kick in fairly quick at over 12amps of current draw and lower output.

  • Risky business posting this deal here. Number of issues can arise most likely shipping issues and quality control issues or it could be fine. Looks like an awesome light but I'd wait till a few people have one first.
    I salute you lol.

    • That’s fair! I also realised I missed putting in that it’s in preorder at the moment; the L plate says it all :/ I’ll edit it when I get home to make sure I don’t mess it up.

  • With 100AUD I've got Fenix TK22 neutral white 1k lumens. Can't be more happy about it. Definitely not a toy and not a waste of money.

  • Be careful ordering from Banggood. I am still waiting for an order from Jan 13th for which I paid postal insurance. Their "support" insist I have to wait 70 days(!) before they will do anything.

It is over 70 days now and yet they still keep trying to fob me off. Just been on chat today and now that are trying to change when the 70 days start from. Ridiculous.
