Xbox One Controller via Telstra Plus program

I am just in the market for a new Xbox One Controller and seeing that they hardly ever go on special, I was looking at getting one from the Telstra Points program for 27,000 points. Does this seem like a good deal for this amount of points. The Elite controller is available for 75,000 so not quite triple the price in terms of points.

Also is there a way to determine if this is the new version of the wireless controller or the old version?

  • Pretty subtle differences noted here. The xbox guide button changed from glossy finish to matte and the new controller S has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

There's actually been a few versions of the controller
OG - no headphone jack or BT
2015 rev - headphone jack added but no BT
S - headphone jack + BT + slightly different controller design (notice the plastic around the Xbox button is no longer a separate piece of plastic)

In terms of feel and use, the S has a textured plastic around the grips making it slightly grippier

    • Awesome thank you guys! Based on the above plus Caped Baldy's comment it must be the new version as the features listed on their site is below:

      Textured Grip
      Button Mapping
      3.5mm stereo headset jack
      Bluetooth® technology
Equip yourself with the Xbox Wireless Controller, featuring a sleek, streamlined design and textured grip for enhanced comfort. Get up to twice the wireless range. Plug in any compatible headset with the 3.5mm stereo headset jack. And with Bluetooth® technology, play your favourite games on Windows 10 PCs and tablets.*

      • Button mapping available via Xbox Accessories app for Xbox One and Windows 10. Range compared to previous controllers, using the Xbox One S console. Operating system updates may be required. Go to xbox.com/xboxone/controller-OS for more information.
  • If you are specifically looking for most value out of your points, then for reference the airpod pros points + pay with 25000 points brings the price to $288. So for those 25000 points = approx $111 ($399 RRP)
Haven’t compared this to the other items on the store, but guessing it is probably in the higher end, points value doesn’t seem overly consistent.

Thanks for the post. Needed a new xbox remote and didn't realise I had plenty of Telstra points to get this.

  • Don't recommend the xbox elite controller because the batteries aren't replaceable. They're rechargeable, but eventually croak; as a result, you'll need to replace the controller eventually. YMMV with respect to the longevity of the controller; however, many people have described unpleasant experiences when using the controller.

Unless you can afford replacing your elite controller 2-3 times a year (that's about 250-280$/time) I wouldn't recommend it. Just purchase/redeem the normal, most recent, XB1 controller and get a control freak thumbstick attachment to your device.

The Elite Controller does feel very good in the hands with the modifications and textured grip; however, there are too many issues that make it a poor purchase/acquisition.
