iPhone 9/SE 2020 is coming very soon?

    • Very, very soon.

  • +4

    "Massive"

  • +1

I got an Apple refurb 128Gb iphone 7 for $300…

  • Insane price really.

    • Why haven't you upvoted the deal yet?

      • +26

        I meant insanely bad.

  • +1

Anyone ever buy a refurbished phone from Boost?
It's $279 for an iPhone 7. Wondering what one can expect for that price.

    • +3

I did, the phone I received has a brand new screen (doesn't seem to be a genuine Apple screen) has 4 needle head sized marks on the body (I have the Black model, which has the matt finish) these are not obvious. Everything else works well though. Also came with a Boost prepaid starter pack and brand new box (generic but just like the Apple box) has a new generic standard charger, head phones and SIM removal tool.

  • massive 12MP

  • Is it free to unlock on Telstra website?

  • +6

buying a 5 year old model for 459…wow while you could buy a xiami 9s for 60 less..not my idea of a deal

    • +8

and with the iPhone you get those pesky updates… None of that for Xiaomi. :P

      • +5

This is an iPhone 7 (from 2016!!!) it's likely gonna stop receiving updates within 1 year or so! If you want to buy a phone with plenty of updates best to buy a way newer iPhone rather than one that is nearly end of life/out of support

    • +2

That's like saying "Bargain: BMW RRP is $89,000, today's price $69,000" and you would be like "Ackshually, not a bargain because I can get a Kia for $24,990."

      • +3

Brings it exactly to the point. One is a smart choice and one is a status symbol to heal complexes

      • +3

except that its 2015 BMW, still no deal

        • +1

Would you prefer to drive a 2015 BMW or a 2020 Skoda?

          • @Laziofogna: i would go a brand new car which is relevant to the times

        • +2

Apple iPhone 7 was released on 16 September 2016. It is not even 4 years old.

    • +2

It's way overpriced but if you're stuck in the Apple ecosystem it's not bad.

Still a third of the price of a current iphone.

Also, phones haven't really improved drastically.
It's still a slab of glass with a good camera. You're not missing out on much if you don't buy something newer.

  • $450 for a phone with low light photos that aren't even usable for social media … this is a ridiculous price.

  • IMO this is not a deal. iPhone 7 is almost 4 years old and it hasn't aged so well.

  • They use a black model in the advertising so you don't notice those dated thick borders around the screen.
    This thing is so outdated

  • +2

Haters always gonna hate….Android Nazis are the worst.

    • +1

People who own Android phones are not automatically "Nazis". That is so childish.
Nor are their two simple sides. Many people own both Apple and Android products, however the iPhone 7 is well past its prime, any reasonable person can see that.

      • I don't see the reason to comment on Apple posts to advocate the 'betterness' of Android anyway, not you but in general. The fans of one or the other won't change their mind because of that. Try go on a Rolling Stones page saying Beatles are better and see

        • +1

Its not about the Brand its just really old and if you can't fine better value with a newer model I'd give up my OZB badge !

        • "Nor are their two simple sides, Many people own both Apple and Android products"

    • +2

True. My wife owns the 7 plus and not only the phone works perfectly, but photos are great despite someone says are not

  • What happened to the whole scandal about apple intentionally slowing down older iphones? Is that still an issue?

    • +1

They were slowing down old phones only when it was required to maintain stability when the battery was too old.

They now alert you when this is happening and allow you to turn it off (but you'd be stupid to, the real solution is to replace the battery).

      • Right… Although I don't understand what an aging battery has to do with phone stability…

        • +5

Old batteries can't provide enough voltage.

It's not just an iPhone thing. My Android Nexus 6 had the same problem, except instead of getting slower, it would randomly die or restart.

Apple were actually doing the right thing by slowing peoples phones (though they should of told them), because a slow phone is better than being stranded somewhere with a dead phone.

    • Is that still an issue?

Only if you have stopped beating your Cat

Just FYI, the new iPhone SE is rumored to be announced tomorrow (Aussie time), it's expected to look like an iPhone 8 with a low cost 4.7" LCD and an A13 chip. Will likely be more expensive than this iPhone 7 deal but will get updates for years longer and will have the latest speedy chip, so worth weighing up.

  • aust post rarely have good deals. you can pay $415 to get a 256gb iPhone 7 from eBay.

  • +2

Terrible deal, not because they can be found cheaper elsewhere but I expect the iPhone 8 to drop to a lower price than this one, as soon as next week. I believe the base model iPhone 9 /SE 2020 is supposed to go for around $600 and will give you so much more power for the years to come.

  • -7

Not sure why this is getting upvotes. Terrible price for an old model.

  • +1

Also 6S for $379 which I think is cheapest around. Officeworks is $429.

I wouldn't get it but been asked to look out for basic iPhone for the Grandfolks. Think i'll go the 7 for a little more longevity. (Phone, not the grandparents)

    • Don't forget 3.5% cashrewards.

    • +2

Beats getting an iPod Touch. Good deal.

  • The new iPhone SE announced today is available for $750 and has the latest chipset. It’s the same form factor and much better value imho.

    https://www.apple.com/au/iphone-se/

    • So if you spend $307 more you will get a better phone. Who would have thought.
Seems a valid reason to neg, lol.

      • Simple back of the envelope calc:

This iPhone 7 will have updates for the next 2 years (given 6S support will cease this year, we can expect 7 to lose support the next).
Cost of ownership per year = $459/2 = $230 per year

The new SE phone has the latest chipset which puts its lifetime upward of 5 years. Lets take 5 years as the conservative figure.
Cost of ownership per year = $750/5 = $150 per year

Not to mention, you get the joy of using the latest tech with the SE - and its got heaps more features than the 7. Also, the 7 is 32 gb while the SE is 64 gb.

        Hope this helps.

        • Not everyone can afford $750 though. Lots of people have lost their jobs recently and if they need an iPhone because they are locked into that ecosystem then this might help. The iPhone 7 won't become unusable as soon as updates stop.

Your neg is very harsh if you read the voting guidelines.

          • -1

@Arthur Dunger: Mate people shouldn’t be buying new phones if they’ve lost their job.

Value is subjective and in this case buying the 7 would be penny wise but pound foolish.

            • -2

@DirtyMunchy: Lots of reasons why people need to buy a phone even if they've lost their job. I'm sure you can figure it out.

Buying an iPhone in the 1st place isn't the best value for your dollar anyway.

          • @Arthur Dunger: Ok op you seem really touchy about the neg so I’ll revoke it. My opinion on the issue stands though. Hope this makes you feel better, Tc.

            • -1

@hashtagbargain: I just think we should stick to the voting guidelines. These are the 3 reasons for an appropriate use of negative vote.

              • Cheaper price elsewhere
              • Issue with product (It does not work the way it should / It has been recalled)
              • Issue with retailer
              • +2

@Arthur Dunger: No no no… It's about what's on the "verbatim" list. You can neg anything, so long as you don't use the phrases from the "verbatim" list…

"My mum doesn't like this deal…

                Ok to use…

                “I don't like this deal"

                REVOKE! PENALTY BOX!!!

                • @pegaxs: Haha yeah that is strange. It should be anything along the lines of those comments, not verbatim.
