Illegal and Unethical Business Practices

Hey! It's been my observation here that while many great bargains can be found here, sometimes businesses can be dodgy… I was thinking it might be useful to have a reference somewhere (like this forum- or maybe there already is something…. if there is, my apologies. I couldn't find it) as to what some businesses do that is illegal, and what you can do if you see a business doing something wrong and how to report it if you see it or become a victim to it?

(for example, bait and switch, counterfeit products etc- I don't have time to outline them myself right now- I'm meant to be working)

  • ACCC site is usually a good place to start if you want to know your rights as a consumer:

  • Good idea. It's best to create a wiki page so we can find it later.

That sort of thing can be a bit dangerous? Apart from the legal liability side there is also the situation where someone may lay blame on a certain retailer but not tell the full story.

Maybe something in the opposite direction where exceptional businesses could be highlighted with a OZB Gold Star after being recommended as a trusted dealer by a set minimum number of members??

There are some businesses that are good to OZB so why not give them some recognition?

    • this sounds a great suggestion.

    • this is a good idea!

    • Annual OzBargain rewards/badges where merchants can paste on their website showing they are "Outstanding Merchants"? That could be an interesting idea.

    • Its a great idea for the good businesses like logitechshop, etc to be known for their good reputation.

But I also think, wiki page suggested by Neil is also a good idea. Users should know of some dodgy businesses before buying crap from them.
