Anyone have any suggestions for a good dishwasher. Have heard good things about Bosch 6 series. Is this comparable?

Anyone have choice membership and what they recommend?

    • +3

Grab your digital membership for your local library and have a look at the choice magazine with a pinch of salt

      • 'a pinch of salt'
Is it because the rating isn't reliable?

        • Is it because the rating isn't reliable?

It's because their ratings are just above moronic. It all depends on how they choose to weight the importance of different features or functions. EG, they did a TV wrap up a few years ago, they had Picture Quality as the lowest weighted category, so a universally panned heap of junk LG LCD that had disgusting picture quality ended up getting top spot.

So not a pinch of salt, but an entire truck load. I cancelled my membership after that and several other articles i could see were also deeply flawed.

I'm also in the market for a washing machine.

The Miele 9203 did make the recommendation list

From what I have found by way of review and opinions, Bosch (German made series 6) seems to be the most favourable and reliable. Miele is the same at a higher price. LG seems to be an up and comer.

Dedicated cutlery rack seems to be a life changer according to a few people I have spoken to.

I was looking at the LG XDA315NS as it ticked a lot of boxes for me and at ~$950 it was very compelling.

I would have chosen the Bosch but I had a personal mental problem with the multiple models they have and inconsistent reviews. I figured that the multiple models are for free standing, fully and semi integrated on the different series, but it blows my mind that they perform differently under the choice reviews.

        @thank you StevieRay
The dedicated cutlery rack and pops open for drying after finish seem to be really good features. Made in Germany is definitely a bonus.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say life changing, but once you've used one it is painful to go back to a cutlery basket.

      • Any clue as to why the two Asko's are not recommended?

  • Is Miele better than Bosch ?

      it depends really

    • Their vacuums are. But kitchen appliance reliability is questionable.

Our 14 year old Miele dishwasher died with a pump issue. We could have repaired it, but cost was half the price of a new one, so we opted to replace it. There wasn't really a discussion as to brand, it was simply which new Miele suits us best.

The feature we really like is the cutlery tray at the top which enables you to space out items, not have them jumbled together.
The new model has a feature where after the cycle is finished, the door pops open a few centimetres. We've found this helps considerably with drying, especially if you run the dishwasher overnight and empty it in the morning.

    • Are there other brands that also offer the last feature you mentioned? Pops open for drying.

      • Yes. The LG XDA315 and XDA325 also pop open.

Other cool features I have seen are the integrated models that shine a light / time remaining on the floor in lieu of a front panel display.

Electrolux has Comfort Lift option that brings the bottom rack up so you do not have to bend down.

I also thought the simple feature of the top rack height being variable was a nice feature too.

      • Our LG does. Also has a top cutlery rack and was #1 rated by choice at one stage. Can’t remember the model

  • I have this dishwasher for 3.5 years. Nothing special at all. Still have no idea why it's so expensive. Very basic features and lay out. Next time i'll be after something more advanced and likely cheaper.

My 16yo Miele is still going strong, used 1-2 times everyday, love it. Wouldn't question another if this ever goes. For mine I'd recommend the most basic model (less to go wrong), no need for gimmick features as I've found Miele compared to others cleans so well regardless of how full it is. Also seems less sensitive to which tabs you use v other brands of dishwasher I've tried (family/work ones).

  • We have this model. Works great. Never needs a cleaner run through it. But a clean cycle is close to 3hrs

    • 3 hours! :O that’s ages. My old
Fisher and paykel is 98 mins. So twice as long. That’s gotta cost more to run surely. And claims about the cleaning efficacy maybe might just be down to the fact that it runs twice for every one wash in some other dishwashers.

      • This is what they call 'the second price tag'.

  • Damn!

Wife wants the 4930SCU. It is a nice discount considering the normal price.

Edit: was looking at the free standing…. SCU is still available
Edit2: Booooo SCU isn't on sale.

If you don't mind an opened-box item with the same warranty, I'd suggest trying out their outlets to see if they have what you are after - I got the model I was after this way with about 30%+ discount.

Although I'm not quite sure if they are still opening during this time.
