DIY Computer

Hi,

I am comparing prices of Desktops in pricespy.com.au. I find that it is cheaper to custom-build a computer. I do not know a reliable pc assembler in Sydney. Any suggestions. Thanks a lot!.

Why not try it yourself? It's not hard at all!
I made my first one last year and it feels great keeping the $50 it would have otherwise costed to build it.
The motherboard usually comes with instructions too.
And there are lots of forums to help you in case you get stuck (WP, OCAU, etc.).

yeah, the current computer is very simple compare than in 1994 when the first time i assembly my first pc. in the past you need to know the processor clock and the speed, and you need setting the jumper in the right place. it seems everything is automatic except if you wanna do overclock on the processor.

      • And even that's pretty simple too! Lots of templates online where you can copy speeds from.
I heard back in the old days people had to solder stuff together to 'overclock' lol.

        • hmm may be that guys doesn't know jumper?

I remember at one time, I used a pencil (graphite) to bypass the lock in AMD processors.

        • Ahhh… I remember that trick!

Or find a friend/associate/family member who works in IT (or someone who knows computers) and pay them a slab of beer to assemble it for you.

    • He is NSW… he has help here in Newcastle too!
Once shown most people are surprised how easy it is.
These days it is just as easy to buy a laptop and plug it into your monitor and you have the portability as a bonus.
