Fixing The Hole on The Ceiling

Hi,

I have a hole in the ceiling that our plumber cut to inspect the ceiling of the ground floor. All is good now, and I have to arrange someone to fix this.

It's a square hole the plumber cut (around 30 cm x 30cm ). I still have the plaster piece the plumber cut.

I have no idea who I would contact to patch it up before painting. Which tradesman should I contact for this repair? And anyone have a rough clue on the repair cost?

Thanks.

A handyman or a plasterer. With some handymen you'll get a great job, others a rough job depending. If you happen to have any friends that work in real estate rentals they will have recommended people.

      ^ This.

Have a look through Airtasker for similar jobs to get an idea of cost.

      • Thanks. I was able to find similar jobs at Airtasker. :D

    • Thank you.

  • It can be done yourself if so inclined. Given the hole is 30 x 30 then cut a piece of chipboard or MDF about 30 x 40. Mark a pencil line across it about 6 cm from each end (about 28 cm apart). Pass it up thru the hole and use the pencil lines to centre it up. Then either use wood glue or an adhesive to glue it into place. Wait till set then trim the edges of the plaster piece and the edges of the hole both at an angle. Use a box cutter. Glue the piece up into the hole and support it until set or screw it into place with countersunk head screws (Google if you don't know). When all dried then fill in the groove with plaster filler from Bunnings. When dry sand it smooth and paint it. Probably need to use a primer paint as well as a finish coat. Complicated? Maybe but probably cheaper than a tradie who may have to visit several time to finish the job.

This works on walls also but needs a bit more trickery to hold the MDF backing in place while the glue dries. I usually cut a finger sized hole in the middle of the MDF and put a screw thru the plaster at each end. When screwing thru the plaster just take it slow and put the screw heads a bit below the surface of the plaster and fill those holes later.
