Just Found Something out in Safari on iPad (Possible iOS13 Feature) - Tap Link with Two Fingers to Open Link in New Tab

This whole time on the iPad I have been long pressing, then tapping “open in background” (requiring 2 actions) just to open a link in a new tab.

I accidentally tapped a link with two-fingers and it does the same thing doh.
(Most likely works on iPhone as well)

Just thought to share for anyone else.

Still learning how to internet.

Please contribute any other hidden gestures / actions if you know of any.

I also know one-finger swipe from left of screen to right goes ‘back’.

  • Nice one

  • Thanks for the tip OP. For anyone who doesn't know you can also hold the refresh button down to request the desktop website for any webpage.

Yes I remember that from the previous iOS.

On iOS13 you actually tap the “aA” icon on the left of the address bar (then tap request desktop/mobile site), instead of ‘refresh button’ on the right of the address bar.
A change which I had to learn.

      • Oh I see, I haven't updated my phone to the newest iOS.. should get around to that.

        • iOS13 was a quite jarring update.
Had to relearn a few things, such as ‘text selection‘ and copy n pasting became slightly difficult for some reason, I am more used to it now (they changed the timing?).
But the learning curve overall was tougher than previous updates.

  • All this talk of using two fingers reminds me of the 1999 joke: Y2K Jelly - when you need to use four digits instead of two.

  • Thx op, useful and didntt know

  • This was a thing in iOS12

  • Something out in Safari

So you're the one using safari

    • I often login on the iPad recently, the computers in the house run windows though, so I am more a Windows user.

  • Game changer! Cheers.

  • Thanks. I was doing the same thing until now on my iPad. Good to know this trick.

  • Thanks!!
    Works on iPhone too
