So you hoarded without having a use for it?

You should be ashamed of yourself.

        • +7

Do you watch the news? Do you see how the elderly is going without because they can't get into the store before the hoarders? Shame on you. Seriously. Shame on you.

          • -4

@NeggerOfDeals: The elderly get a whole hour before anyone else.

            • @hippyhippy: And how does that benefit them when stock levels are zero due to hoarders such as yourself? I seriously can't believe you're still arguing the point.

        • +11

You sound like one of those people in the crowd on Bondi beach the other week.

          • @jv: You know someone has done goofed when JV's comment is in the positive

    • +1

If that was more meant as a 'joke', it may be a good idea to indicate as such; it's (obviously) a touchy subject nowadays.

Unless you're actually stockpiling dozens of them, then batten down the hatches and brace for downvotes!

      • -4

I couldn't care less for down votes… because the actual hoarders got all their stuff before the normies started panicking. The people panic buying are the same people complaining about lack of items. They are causing any shortage.

I stocked up well before people were panic buying and everything was still plentiful.

  • +1

What is the supply of mince like in Supermarkets at the moment? I haven't been to one in nearly 3 weeks.

    • +5

Pretty good now. There's only so much room in the freezer compartments of the idiots hoarding anything and everything they might need in a nuclear winter.

    • +1

It's been on sale because of oversupply and nobody's buying it because their freezers are full.

    • +1

Stores are slowly returning to levels of stock, albeit low. Mince is usually in my store until mid-arvo.

    • Go to a butcher. Full stock, better quality and they all seem to have suppliers that can provide toilet paper, pasta and hand sanitiser too.

    • Only thing I'm struggling to get at the moment is eggs. Surely people will get sick of baking at home soon.

  • There's also San Remo Penne Pasta 500g

Don't hoard, just grab one if you need. Again - supply is definitely catching up to demand now.

How are OPs finding these deals on Amazon?

    • I just searched 'pasta', then periodically search for 'Balducci' or 'San Remo'. Someone posted a link to a Telegraph channel in a recent deal that auto updates with these items though.

      • +1

Now I get it. Purchasing these items brings the "Click Frenzy " memories

      • where can i find the telegraph channel?

    • +3

I've actually searched pasta so much now Amazon puts in on my front page if there's any šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

If anyone has some fairly simple but delicious pasta recipes/combinations Iā€™d love to hear them. Getting a bit bored of the the staple three pasta dishes that I cook.

    • +1

I found making white sauce is dead easy ( butter, milk cheese, can add onion and bacon too), ive been using it to make pasta bakes with tuna and corn and cheese (cook past a bit thrown everything in a dish and bake with cheese on top)

can also make stuff peppers with pasta inside or rice

I've got a few, but I'll give you one for now for a delicious Carbonara :) I don't use measurements, pretty much just a "this should be enough" measurement:

Chop up a clove or two of garlic and fry it up in a pot with some oil (this pot will be used for the sauce).

Once it has fried for around half a minute or so, add some bacon/ham if you want and cook that up too.

After a couple more minutes, add some flour into the oil and mix it around, add enough flour that it makes the oil turn into a paste. (more flour = thicker sauce)

Then, add the amount of milk you think you'll need to accommodate the pasta and continue stirring it so it doesn't stick.

Make sure the sauce is on a medium heat to prevent burning while also stirring it frequently.

Add some shredded cheese, and a bit of parsley and continue stirring.

When the sauce is thickening up, add some fresh basil if you have some to enhance the flavour.

Once the sauce is thick enough for your liking, turn it off and add it to your pasta (which I hope was boiling this whole time :))

It's a very quick sauce to make and tastes amazing every time, plus it's healthier than using thickened cream to make the carbonara!

      • +6

this is not carbonara. I'm sure it's nice, but it's in no way carbonara.

        • What would you call it? I usually just call it a creamy sauce.

          • @mangobango: Call it ā€œno carbonaraā€™ pasta.

            • +1

@Laziofogna: Fair enough, or just alfredo.

I blame the restaurants for having "carbonara" on the menu when it's actually just alfredo

              • @mangobango: I can tell you how to make real carbonara but you'll need practice to avoid having scrambled eggs in the plate. Definitely an 'easy' dish but 'hard' to master

              • +2

@mangobango: Yep, pasta with Bechamel sauce is Alfredo.

I don't mind what cheese people put in Carbonara, or if they even add cream/milk (traditionally no cream), but I feel the critical ingredient which makes it "Carbonara" is the eggs.

        • No guanciale, no carbonara.

          • @Charlie Dont Surf: I'd say pecorino is more important. I cbf getting guanciale, it's not that accessible here idk so bacon will do.

            • @ippy: You all seem not to have noticed there was no egg mentioned

    • +1

Olive oil, chili, garlic, lemon, cracked pepper, baby spinach, baby tomatoes and prawns.

    • +1

Olive oil in pan, about 1/4 cm deep. Whack in chorizo and cook it down. Throw in grated / shredded zuchini.

      Serve with wine.

    buy up people
then we can leave more in store for those who cant buy online

    • +2

"Buy instore so there's more online for those who can't go to the store"

    • +2

I think the real lesson here is just don't hoard. Whether that's in-store or not. People need to be able to access supplies when they need them, so just buy what you need regularly and move on.

      • +1

I wish I hoarded tp instead of laughing at hoarders

Everyone who is involved in the supply chain knew this would likely happen. We are down to growing about 5% of our normal rice intake due to drought. Wheat (flour/pasta) way down as well. Countries will likely stop ending many food items overseas. Australia is paying to help export beef and seafood and thatā€™s good because we need to keep primary producers going.

There are riots and organised raids on grocery stores in southern Italy. People will do nearly anything when their family is hungry.

The grocery industry is acting like supplying 21,500,000 rolls of toilet paper per week is a Herculean effort. Isnā€™t that less than one roll per person per week? Various government bodies around the world admit they lied to us about using masks, because they said we might buy up all the masks. The masks I ā€œhoardedā€/stocked up on in AUGUST from diaso in Singapore might have helped people I know, if the had not lied.

Itā€™s my opinion that the government is lying about the supply chain and other things in order to keep us compliant. I am a long standing member of the liberal party and am disgusted at the lies they have told, the way they did not take it seriously until very recently.

They are either wrong or lying about the supply chain. Thee next thing that will be in short supply is cash. There has been a run on the banks and cash may soon be rationed as well. With the collapse of the supply chain, it may be that some sources if what you want w only take cash. Iā€™ve taken quite a bit out. This government has already lied to u enough and has stuffed up enough other things.

I bought all the hand sanitiser, wipes, bleach, soap, gloves, pasta , etc in mid January needed for my immediate family and their families. I insisted they all stock up on their vitamins and prescriptions. Since January, Iā€™ve been draining cash out of my accounts and will continue to do so. In a year, maybe Iā€™ll put it back in, but until then, Iā€™m getting all the cash I can. And I cashed in all my velocity points. They are clamping down on redemptions. That ship is sinking.

    • do whats best for you and your family… dont let anyone try and shame you …. all these armchair heroes telling everyone what they can and cant purchase.

    • +1

      Ok Nostradamus

      • Lib voters, what are you gonna do ;) haha

    • I'm glad you stocked up on your prescriptions but shouldn't you be taking them as directed instead of rationing them?

  • The spaghettini in this weight is $1.50 at some IGAs

  • Available again

  • Seems to be gone again. Showed stock but then bounced back when I went to add to cart.

  • Can't add to cart lol sold out?

  • Not available now…

  • Cheers OP :)
