  • Neither light mentions the colour temp of the LED? But being Olight who seem to only chase lumens they will of course be cool white only.

I wish they would quit it as they otherwise make nice lights.

wouldn't you want a high powered light to be cool white anyway?

      • ~~Not necessarily because higher CCT (cooler white) has harsher perceived backscatter which decreases visibility. Meaning you might see more of the beam and less of what you're trying to illuminate. This is why fog lights are warm white.

(I think) the popularity of cool white is just a result of the association of warm white with the dim dated incandescent light bulb. People gravitate towards cool white because it's perceived as more modern and advanced~~

OK Apparently there are "No statistically significant differences between the results from the cold and warm glare sources or between large and small glare sources were found" source

There are other things such as the availability of High CRI at lower CCTs and personal tint preferences though.

The colour temp of the S1R II is etched on the bezel as 6500k

      • Oof, that's cool.

    • All the brands seem to have a heavy bias toward cool white (much to my chagrin) but at least Olight went NW for one of their most recent main models (M2R Pro).

Great torches. Plan to get the S1R II!

I normally love Olight, but remember they are a Chinese company and I want to start avoiding Chinese products from now on. Look what they have caused to the world right now, amount of dead people, economies decimated, our lives stuck inside.
I think we should start looking at producing things locally.

I bet you call it China virus not COVID-19.

The CEO of olight is located in a high impact area in terms of the pandemic, you can rest assure that the money is going to good use and Olight has also previously raised 42k for our bushfires

"China government bad" != everything Chinese bad

      • I don't blame all Chinese but it's time Australia ceases it's complete dependency on China. I'm sure the majority of Australian-Chinese would want the same thing.

        • -2

Australia it too depended on china. They sell everything that is local to China (businesses, land and property), without looking at future consequences.

        • They wouldn't blame the Chinese people for being the first to be hit by a new disease.
