Nokia 1616 Prepaid (Vodafone) - $12 @ Woolworths

260

I paid $29 for this budget phone and now that it is $12 I seriously hate my life knowing I will never get that $17 back. For everyone else after a budget phone e.g. blind oldies and young school kids, this is a joke for a $12 Nokia phone. You seriously wont find it cheaper anywhere else and it is actually well built and has good basic functions.
Note : Saw it advertised in my local NSW Woolies catalog, so don't know if it is Aust-wide or not.

Could you buy 12 of these and activate one per month and thus be on a $12 plan and have 11 spare phones to sell at the end of the year?

Not sure that it has $12 of credit included…

  • headset included ?

  • Great basic phone for $12, I paid $29 reduced from $49 around 6 months ago from Voda. $12 is sooo cheap.

  • I am not 100% certain on this, but BOTH of my ex-vodafone prepaid mobiles I unlocked via the vodafone site a ~six months after i purchased it, can anyone confirm how the validity of this with this phone?

    • Yep, you're right. If your phone is under 6 months old you'll have to pay a fee to unlock it. Afterwards it's free.

      www.vodafone.com.au/unlock

I just checked with my bro's phone that's under 6 months old… $25 fee to unlock (half price from $50)

  • The battery (BL-5C) itself costs at least $12 plus shipping on non-ebay sites.
Will get one as I need a spare charger for my N82 (yeah it's 4 years old still working perfectly), and the original charger normally costs more than $12 I think ($29.95 @ DSE).

would rather pay double that to get the Vodafone Pre-Paid Nokia 2220 for $24.50 (Save $24.50) at woolworths.

but the battery and charger arguments are valid

  • Woolies had this phone for $1 if you purchased a $29 or more recharge quite a few months ago. Dont think this one has any credit with it.

    I'm sorry you'll never see your $17 again. Here's a cookie.

    • Wolf… we feel ya pain! :-( another cookie for you.

      • I seriously hate his life too

  • The phone comes with a $9.95 starter pack.
On the vodafone Website they want $75 to unlock.
They hit you up with a $50 New Phone Fee.

    Head Set is included.

    • You didn't lose me .. I'm right here!

  • Also available at Officeworks (instore only): http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/technology/com…

  • In regards to unlocking this phone, it'll cost you quite a bit through an unlocker, as the process is longwinded, as suggested above the nokia 2220s might be the way to go, as it's an easy phone to unlock.

    • Could you please help by providing links on unlocking the 2220s ? I've tried unlock code generators but I font think they work for "hard locked"phones

      • I offered unlocking of this phone for $10 as a ozbargain before. I'm unaware of any calculator for this phone. I actually use software/hardware to unlock the phone. You might be able to unlock it via a remote unlocking site.
The price was for a 2220s not the 1616.

  • who's vodaphone? are they a budget carrier? what network are they using? i hope they aren't as bad as vodafail or lcfail

  • No point guys.. Once you go there, they say they've all sold out. It's happened to me about 10 times at Coles and Woolworths.

    • If you can document that, the ACCC would be very interested.

  • Why would you want to even unlock the phone? It's 2G only so all providers offer the same basic service with that. None of the 3G issues Vodafone are having. Their 2G network is fine

  • Friend gave me a Nokia 1800 for free, brand new . and now I've just bought a Nokia 2710 for $39 bucks!

    • I'm inadvertantly building up a collection of cheap/old Nokia phones but I don't think they will get used anymore.

Thanks for the funny comments everyone :)
