Micro Classic Black Scooter - $289.95 (Save 12%) + Delivery @ Toy Buzz

70

Just picked up one of these scooters, been looking for a while and this is the best price I've seen so far. Seems like a fair price and sensible delivery cost.

Rrp is $329.95.

A non-motorized adult scooter for $290? Admittedly I've bought one to use in the city, but I paid $100 from Reid cycles, and then a few months later Aldi released one for $50.

Not hating on this deal, I've heard custom scooters can get quite expensive, and I know the ones Decathlon sells seem to be in a similar price point. Just curious what they offer that the cheaper ones don't.

I hear you, but i was looking for a daily commute, and based on the reviews this one seemed to be rated very highly on various sites/articles. Although at this price point I will be expecting alot.

David Jones use to sell these adult scooters, not anymore and they use to have 20% off all the time.

I've had this scooter for 2 years now and it's really well made.
I guess you're paying for the swiss engineering and quality of the scooter.

Slim battery indeed, I can hardly see it

Do u guys feel Embarrassed riding one of these bad boys to work? I’d ride a skateboard or bike if I weren’t driving, but a scooter?

    • +7

You get over it pretty soon when you're twice as fast as walking. Admittedly it seems more acceptable in some professions like say hipster developer (me)

Good answer. I guess you’re right. I think cos I used to skate as a kid I’m a bit hung up on scooters being ‘lame’.

        • +1

You could always try skating to work if you've got that down. I've only longboarded a bit, but I definitely don't have the control it would take to skate around the city. Scooters probably are lame in the way that makes them useful - they require less skill to control and are subjectively safer.

    • I never understood the hate between the extreme sports codes. Skaters, scooters, Inline skates, bmx, pogo, bouncy moon boots. I've tried them and they're all great fun. Just do your own thing and don't hate on what others enjoy.

100%. Not sure my 15 year old self was so open minded though.

  • Dimensions says 72cm as the height, that can't be right?!?

I have the Micro Sprite in black, costs and weighs half as much - from David Jones of all places. There's a 100kg weight limit though. Fantastic for commuting with, fun as hell

They must have increased the weight limit on the Sprite in the past couple of years (I checked your claim on their website and it's correct).
I bought one of these but returned it as I noticed the box had a weight limit that was below mine (~80kg). The weight and size have obvious benefits, but I found the small wheels to be a hazard for an adult - I tried one in a shop and the lowrise door mat would throw me over the handles. In my opinion, an adult's height makes these wheels a bit risky.

I bought a Classic in the end, from a local bike shop, for about $200. It's not as compact as a Sprite but that's the only drawback. The considerably bigger wheels make the uneven footpaths much less of a worry.

Initially I wanted the cheapest scooter just to keep up with the kids, and tried out a Razor a5 Lux at Toys-R-Us (~$120). But compared to the Micros it was a noisy, bone-rattler. Every single thing about the Micro is better quality.
I've also bought a $50 Aldi adult scooter, which is a nice price, but the geometry is a bit off and feels a bit unstable, especially after riding the Micro Classic. It's probably more comparable to the Razor though.

I'm about 165cm, I can jump off kerbs and things on the Sprite without wiping (after some practice lol). I do wish the wheels were a little bigger but the weight more than makes up for that, because it's perfect to travel with. I've taken it to Adelaide, worked like a charm. I plan to take the Sprite o'seas in checked luggage at some point.

The Micro is very sturdy for sure. I tried out a Razor in Costco and it was very ordinary in comparison. I'm also really happy with the 2-year warranty.

You sound a bit more nimble than I am these days, but I also often ride one-handed, with two large school backpacks while keeping an eye on youngsters, so the last thing I want to worry about is big bumps in the path.

Originally I had hoped to be able to pack a scooter for holidays - we took a couple of ultra-lightweight Cruzee balance bikes in one checked suitcase on our last trip to the Gold Coast. It would have been great to squeeze in a scooter for me too.

          • @sam buster: I couldn't do any of that stuff carrying a bunch of bags, sensible of you to grab some bigger wheels. Scooting has been advantageous also in that it has encouraged me to cut down on carrying a lot of stuff. Nowadays, I try to get by on a little crossbody, only really pull out the backpack when I want to do a grocery run.

I probably also need to wear a helmet :/

Wow, you fit a couple bikes in one suitcase?? How'd you do that? I was thinking about one of those foldable bikes at one point, but you'd need a full-sized suitcase for just one. With the Micro, I could just pack all my clothes around it.

  • I brought a cheapy from ebay. Got very large wheels, disc brakes and also a 100KG weight limit which I am pushing. the kids have the decathlon scooter and I have no trouble keeping up with them for the first 10 mts :-)

Considering the ebay one delivered is around $80-$90 delivered, I would go with that option and then when the wheels eventually fail, just get another one.

The disc brakes, do take a little while to wear in, and I wouldnt use them all the time as they do get very hot. The only downside of the scooter is the stand this is not very good.

The store in ebay, had lots of different user front ends, and the phone number on the internet is wrong. They were pickup from bayswater, and their engrish is not very good.
