Each auditory, verbal and kinesthetic lesson exercises the brain and its memory storage. Even visual cues are used by giving Montessori color assignments to every time tables chart.

No normal price in title? (I'm guessing this has always been free?)

    11 reviews?

I'd just like to remind people to properly review apps before installing them, especially ones associated with education.

For instance, "Maths Champions lite for kids" has over 2100 reviews at a 4.4 average rating (above app average isn't reliable as only 11 reviews)…. and is also free. I don't have any experience in either app btw.

Yes champions has in app purchases, but over 2000 reviews is more credible than 11!

Just saying to use a little is all. Free and on Ozbargain doesn't always mean good when it comes to apps.

  • "Very good reviews"

    It has 11 reviews…

  • I always have trouble with my 7 and 8 times tables.

Others have taken my advice here in the past, but I'll mention it again. I'm a primary school teacher. Reflex Math is the answer. It's not free. US$40 a year.and it works. I highly doubt you would need a second year of subscription if it was used 3-4 times a week. The extensive research is available here; https://www.reflexmath.com/research

Since the start of 2020, Reflex have hived off the program for home users to Time4Learning while they focus on school sales. It's the same program. Nothing else comes close. I have looked at all the programs that have come out in the last 20 years. Well, I'm sure I missed a few, but the major ones anyway. You can ask for a refund within 14 days if it's not the right fit for your student.

I see so many students struggling to do upper primary math because they don't know their times and division tables. I have even offered to buy schools this with my own money, but admin turned me down and they continue to struggle. It really is a silver bullet. I have no financial interest in the company or its products. I just know it works.

P.S. You can use it for either addition and subtraction or multiplication and division, but not at the same time. I would suggest addition and subtraction initially for students up to the end of year 3, as I even see troubles in that area. Once they have mastered that, they can move on to multiplication and division.

    • Have you tried Rocket Maths? It follows a verbal and written format. RM focuses on speed and accuracy to build automaticity No software.

    • What grade do you recommend commencing in Reflex? My son is in prep and it might be a bit early for him?

    • Thanks. My kids use Khan but coming from doing Kumon for my elder kids I believe some of repetitive learning is required for mastering add/sub/mul/div in math. This will make secondary learning a lot easier.

Quick tip. The Home Tutor/Parent only provides a 14 day trial. However I was able to sign up as a school and got a 60 day trial.

How does reflex compare to Khan academy?
And is there something similar for secondary school maths?
    Cheers

Reflex is purely for learning and automating the math facts and does an unparalleled job of that in my opinion. Khan academy is also brilliant, but teaching math concepts is where it shines. You have to have the automaticity before you can easily do higher level maths, otherwise you are trying to learn two things at once. If you have the automaticity, you are only trying to learn one thing at a time.
