YouTube Premium INR ₹129/Month via YouTube India (VPN Required, Single ~$2.81/Month, Family ~$4.17, Student ~$1.73)

6560

Reposting previous deals as this is a great reminder for those unaware you can access YouTube premium at a fraction of the price it normally costs. Will come in handy right now with most of us at home. I'll copy paste the OP with thanks to Mitr & dealbot. Stay safe, and enjoy :)

Edit: Found this comment from doweyy suggesting you can get it even cheaper as a student. Worth a shot!

Google has finally launched Youtube Premium in India for INR 129 (AUD ~2.81) and Family Membership for INR 189 (AUD ~4.12).
Comes with Youtube Music, No Ads in Youtube as well as Google Play Music.

https://india.googleblog.com/2019/03/introducing-youtube-mus…

This is cheaper than was posted for using Russian subscription option https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/414890

I have signed up after cancelling Russian plan with my Macquarie Debit card so no conversion charges.

Everything included in post by @Dealbot applies here too.

Youtube Premium will give you access to -
• Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions
• Save offline: Save videos and songs on your mobile device to watch offline
• Background play: Keep videos or music playing when using other apps or when your screen’s off
• Audio mode: Listen to audio only on the YouTube Music app
• Google Play Music Subscription (when available in your country) is included at no additional cost

Current pricing is $14.99 per month in Australia. This workaround should work for new and existing customers.

Again, the trick to making this work is having access to a VPN service. If you're signed up to one, then the rest of the process should be fairly simple.

Instructions -
1. Connect a VPN to the server India (I connected to Bangalore)
2. Click on Paid Memberships(youtube.com), then click on Learn more.
https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships

Enter Indian address and pay by credit card.
Termination takes place under this link(music.youtube.com)

Postcode : 400070

  • Had this for a while now, got charged $3.80 earlier this month for my family membership.

good reminder for those not using OP!

any other subscription services that have the same 'benefit'

  • +1

Be aware this changes your Play Store region to India, so if you use the account for phone/tablet etc you won't be able to access certain local apps ie Foxtel Go, Stan, etc.

    • Didn't change my play store region.

      • It didn't change anything for me. At least not 12 months ago when I set it up from last deal.

    • Same for me :(
Please let me known if you find a fix!

    • Same to me.
Example: tried to install 7-Eleven Fuel app. It’s showing 'Thia item is not available in your country'. Only way is to sideload apk but it won't get latest update automatically .

    • Is this confirmed or what? Why conflicting comment?

  • Does it give you access to YouTube original TV shows?

    • Yes

  • Can my friend still use Google play credit (bought at a discount in Australia) to pay for this - or need a credit card?

    • No, the credit sitting in Australian payment profile cannot be used for this (Indian profile)

  • I’ve had this for nearly a year, so happy with it

    • +1

Yes, I have had it for 6 months. Very happy

  • They really should have had a lower membership option which gets rid of ads, but keeps their youtube original series at a higher tier.

I have no interest in watching any of their content, so why pay for it?

This India loophole has been brilliant otherwise I’d never sign up for $20+ a month.

  • is it easy enough to upgrade to family without screwing around on VPNs etc? I have single atm

  • bought fam plan but when i tried adding my fam member, they got "looks like you are in a different country".

anyone got this and got any workaround?

edit: tried logging onto vpn india again and accepting the invitation, still got rejected with the same message.

    • I had this problem as well. The invited accounts can only accept while being on the same network as the primary owner.

      • Mind elaborate? What do you mean when you said "on the same network"? Did you add your fam member successfully? Mind share the steps? Thx

        • Try this:
          - log on to the Google account with the Family Manager access via this link https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/1/home/addressbook
          - add in Australian address to the existing Indian address. So in the Addresses, there would be 2 addresses with the Indian one marked as "This is the legal address" and the Australian one is the extra one.
          - clicked on invitation links in family member's email without any VPN.

The invitation should be able to join without VPN.

If the invitee could not join the do then do the following.
          - log on to the Google account with the invitee account via this link https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/1/home/addressbook
          - add in Australian address to the existing Indian address. So in the Addresses, there would be 2 addresses with the Indian one marked as "This is the legal address" and the Australian one is the extra one
          - VPN to india and join.

          I hope this help…

          • @aaa123: Will try thanks!!

            • @Ch Rs: Did it work? Which one?

              • @spychiatrist: Nah didn't unfortunately. I've tried many combinations but no luck. Gave up with the fam plan.

    • had the same problem

delete all your other payment profiles under pay.google.com apart from the one you used to pay for Indian premium.

they were able to accept after that

      • thanks! confirmed worked. vpn + incognito.

Does anyone know how to change the region back to Australia. My google play store is set to India now and stops me from downloading certain apps, I have been side loading apks but it's really inconvenient. Anyone know a method to change it back to aus?

    • Try going to https://pay.google.com/ and click 'Settings' and you'll see 'Payments Profile for Google Pay', from there just select your Australian account and you'll be back to normal!

      • Tried this many times still can't fix it even after speaking to google

        Anyone have a solution?

  • Managed to get this setup fairly easily. Just hating that all accounts in Play Music now have Indian recommendations and top charts. Whats the go with this? Can we change it back?

  • +1

so weird, connected to India with nordvpn, but the YouTube shows AED 23.99 (United Arab Emirates Dirham).. like about the same price as AUD then..
how come it didn't connect to India YouTube? @_@

    • You've likely connected to an incorrect VPN. Make sure the VPN is definitely set to India. What VPN client are you using?

      • I said "connected to India with nordvpn" .. it's definitely set to India, using nordvpn.

even Tried disconnect then reconnect the vpn, then refresh YouTube, it's still showing AED

        • +1

I had the same so I restarted the computer and YouTube (IN) showed up.

          • @viirgon: Try a p2p India server on nord - should work

          • @viirgon: Thank you. Had same problem. Restarted the Mac, connected to India #36, and used Safari this time instead of Chrome. Now I see it in Rupees.
            (Even P2P didn't work)

    • Yes I had similar issues because NordVPN sometimes use some sort of VPN switching / double NAT or whatever that it's called..but actually it's connected to a UAE server…and not Indian server… Try using another VPN or trying disconnecting Nord and reconnected to another Indian server if available.

    • Had the same issue, restart and refreshing the page worked for me

  • +1

Imagine walking into a local physical shop and they base the price on which country you live in primarily..It would be called racism. Yet in the digital world it is all ok.

    • Or be happy to pay more so that Google will pay more taxes in Oz?

      • Or don't pay it at all

        • So whats your point?

  • I connected to VPN to India server then clicked on the link for paid membership then signed in with my account.

But when I click on Learn More I am presented with $11.99USD

    What am I doing wrong?

    • Your (VPN) IP address was not recognized as belonging to Indian IP range. Try different VPN (or reconnect few times) until you see price on that page in rupees.

  • I have Australian play store on my mobile. Even though I am able to purchase Indian family Subscription, I cannot share it with people with Indian play store.

  • Signed up. Thanks.

  • Anyone know if this includes Google Play Music subscription also to stream music? Thanks TA for posting this deal!!

    • Sorry just re-read the post, all good!

  • Thanks OP, have been using this trick for awhile but didn’t know about the student dealio! Have managed to swap to it now for an even better deal

    • They didn't accept my TAFE student card. what did you use as proof?

      • I have a university issued ID so submitted a picture of that.

        • Did they accept it? They sent me an email and said a current date is missing.

          • +1

@amirkh: Yep accepted, it has a very visible expiration date on the front

  • Help!!!
Got "Transaction declined: invalid payment method. Learn more [OR-CCSEH-05]" on several cards. Do I have to switch off VPN before submit payment?

    • You don’t switch off the VPN while paying as they need to charge you in rupees.

    • I had this problem too and switching off VPN right before clicking Pay fixed it

    • also got this, switching off vpn did nothing??

      • all good changed the address with random address page and worked!

  • Is Google play music better or YouTube music?

    • +1

The app? YT Music is far better IMO

      • +1

Thanks. Concept looks like Spotify premium. Now I dont need two memberships.

  • +1

keep in mind you dont get localised playlists for Australia. You get playlists for hindi hits!

    • It's funny when I first signed up 12 months or so ago, I did get localised charts for quite some time. Only now when I moved to an Android from iOS did I notice playlist and charts are from India. Not that I bothered with the charts anyway but annoying nonetheless.

  • Any similar workaround for Spotify?

    • no, not that i’m aware of.

      • Exactly Same setup for Spotify but they need a local card -(this may have changed from the last time I tried)
Process is exactly the same -> VPN India -> change country India -> subscribe. Works out to around $3 family

  • Can’t seem to pay with my up bank debit card. Anyone know any other alternatives as PayPal doesn’t work.

    • Switch off VPN right before clicking Pay

      • didn’t work, says transaction declined. used my UP debit card.

  • Have been using for 6 months now with no fail.

  • After reading through the comments here, I’m so glad for just being a member in a family subscription.
Have to do none of the footwork myself and still access a cheap price.

  • They. The kids will love yt with new ads

  • I subscribed when this was put up here. Was working all good. Until recently it stopped working. Not sure if Google had figured it out?
    Anyone else had this problem?

  • Hi Guys, please help. I am using VPN but when i go to the given youtube link it ask to login with google account, and then i click "learn more", but it shows me currency in PHP (philipine), i have changed location to india in menu but still the same. Any advise?

    • +1

Try different VPN until you see Youtube ads in Hindi or Indglish.

  • For YouTube content only. I find the Indian content on Music app is a mess, and most of the latest albums from other Indian languages missing. Prefer Apple Music for that alone.

  • Will the family plan work between two countries?

    • No. All users have to be in the same country.

  • Thanks! Worked a treat - $2.85.

  • Hi I tried this previously but it’s never worked.

I’m currently paying $20 per months (it’s ridiculous, I know) for YouTube premium. Do I have to wait for my active membership to expire before I can resubscribe to take advantage of the cheaper offer.

  • +1

Is there a different country that is a bit more expensive but has more western music than Bollywood? Poland or something?

  • If you are already on YouTube premium India, does anyone know how to simply convert it to a student account without cancelling the existing subscription?

    • You have to cancel and then sign up again, once you sign up again it’ll charge you the student price from whenever your billing date is

      • Just cancelled normal membership. Then tried to resubscribe as student.
        Didn't accept my student card.
Now when I try to renew my existing Individual Indian membership, it keeps defaulting to charging me at Singaporean Dollars (even though VPN IP address is definitely India.

Anyone else have similar experience or know how to fix this?

        • Try clearing your browser cookies or using incognito mode. Good way to check what country YouTube thinks you're in is go to the YouTube home page and look at the logo.

  • Sorry for the silly question, How do I connect to an Indian VPN? Do I have to buy a years subscription for VPN?

    • Download any vpn apk from acmarket. Or download any free vpn in playstore. You don't have to buy anything

  • When i click on get youtube premium,it is saying "sorry cannot open link" anyone facing the same problem?

  • For those looking for a VPN to use for this, CyberGhost offer a 1 day free trial with no payment method required upon downloading their desktop program.

  • Thanks man

  • Bloody brilliant. Signed up no problems! Thanks TA!

  • YouTube Premium is cool but what are some benefits other than no ads? their youtube music isnt great imo :/

    • +1

Kids not screaming when an ad comes on :) Its 3:53am and loving my child screaming right now. Trying to get this to work. Signup just hangs.

      • +1

Had to use Chrome in the end, Opera and Firefox wouldn't work for signup.

  • The video recommendation gona be indian channel mostly? Just to make sure thanks op no offense

  • So can I create a second Google account based in India and add my actual account as a family member to avoid the Indian playlists on my main account?

    • You'll still get the Indian $#!7 regardless.

  • Been using this method without issue since the last time this deal was posted.

  • Can't seem to find a workaround when adding another family member? Says can't add due to not being in same country. Tried leaving VPN on but doenst work either.

    Anyone?

    • Someone said the fix was to have the - family member on the same network as you while setting up

    • I added a single family member who is working overseas. Made a new Gmail account here in aus, logged into YouTube. Gave that family member access to that account, I'm still logged into that account here but not using it. So far it's working, let's see how it goes when they do 30 day check.
