  • Most of rams can be overclocked upto 3200Mhz C16 very easily with eligible motherboards. Thanks got one

    • Isn't that a gamble though?

      • Even the base clock of the ram is 2133Mhz, you can over it at least 3000MHz C17 or C18.
Think about the price. It's not a gamble if you already have a Z, X or other motherboards

it's not so much the motherboard , motherboard is just the bios and circuitry tracing
the advertised ram speed support is referring to xmp profiles

for overclocking you would be looking at silicon lottery on binned ram chip die and cpu IMC

even a320m motherboard can run 3733mhz with good ram and cpu IMC

Yep you're also limited by the memory controller of the CPU you have.
Eg. I'm running a Ryzen 2600 which can boot at 3466 run benchmarks etc but isn't stable, it'll only run 3333 T1 stable. Very few 2600 Ryzen's can do 3600
That's with DDR4 4000 G.Skill btw so its not the ram holding it back ;)

    • Really depends on the ICs and I wouldn't have high hopes for ones rated for 2133/2400. Chances are they're Micron Rev. A or Rev. B, the former usually stops under 3000MHz, while the latter usually stops at 3200MHz. If you get Hynix AFR, you could probably push a bit further than 3200MHz but I don't think MFR can go much further than 3200MHz.

      • i had an early micron stick they usually top out around 2666 but they do really tight timings, when i was looking they get used a lot in the super budget sticks with no heat spreaders, pretty much anything else will do 3000+

i would think with the lpx lineup you have a much better chance of not getting micron, particularly when you see other kits in the lineup hitting 3000+, they're just too lazy to bin usually

i had 2133 kingston hyperx kit that was hynix and did 3200, the lineup went up to 2666, but it doesn't mean anything really they probably didn't even bin them, and they just charge you money for a bigger number

Corsair is well known for using any IC under the sun that will work at the rated specifications which is why I like to call them "lootbox kits".

All the rejects that couldn't be put in the higher frequency kits will get used in the lower frequency kits. That's how binning works.

That doesn't mean that the reject ICs can't overclock, just that you're not guaranteed to hit 3200MHz.

          • @integral: that's good if you get the rejects because it's pretty much guaranteed they're not early micron, those IC's wont go above 2666 no matter the voltage so no point binning them

Great price, perfect for people with Intel (6th gen and above) systems, as the memory speed doesn't affect performance as much (compared to AMD Ryzen systems).

    • It's not so bad with a 3rd gen Ryzen. Going between 2133MHz and 3200MHz I only had a 2% difference in FPS at 1080p, and less than 0.5% difference at 4K. The BIOS did run better auto timings at 2133MHz tho, vs 3200MHz.

      • RAM timings are given in clock cycles. Increased the frequency by 50% and anything less than a 50% increase in timings is a decrease in latency in real terms.

    what happened to shopback???

    • +1

You're right… cash back stopped as of 6pm last night. I noticed a couple of weeks ago Shopback started removing a lot of categories, which was most of the ones I purchase items in, so I stopped using them.

      Cashrewards is the same;

Effective 04/04/20 AEDT, cash back will not be available through Amazon Australia until further notice.
