On the new catalogue it should be on sale tomorrow until 26 Sept, and just checked it online and the price is already down by $10 bucks.

  • Good third post OP.

    BTW, the link is http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XM1266/wd-my-book-essential-…

The OP's link seems to be incorrect.

      still can't beat Staples deal for 1TB for $45 during April/May :(

  • Staples deal already pasted

  • A letter I sent today about the 2GB version of this drive…Not sure the quality is too good!?

I purchased this product on your website in June. I didn’t open it immediately, it sat on a shelf unopened until the beginning of September. When I opened it and plugged it in, I realised it was faulty immediately. I took it to the city store on the corner of Swanston and Bourke street today in Melbourne. The service I received was APPAULLING!!!

Mark, the checkout chick that I presented the faulty device to, asked me what was wrong with it. I told him it wasn’t working. Mark took the product to the laptop area and fiddled around with it for 15 minutes. I saw him swap a number of chords before he finally came back and told me it was working fine….

If it takes an IT specialised staff member takes 15 minutes to get a portable hard drive working, it’s clearly not working properly. What’s worse, is that when he realised it wasn’t working. He told me it needed to be sent off for a repair. It was completely unused, and when I suggested a replacement, he flatly refused telling me it’s a repair not a replacement.

I then found it mildly entertaining to see that the clown had written on the service receipt, “unit only work intermitted”. That was after he had tried to convince me that the unit was working perfectly and I was welcome to take it home again.

The level of customer service demonstrated by mark (896856) was absolutely pathetic, he should not be working in a customer service role. If I had a member of my team treat one of my customers the way Mark had spoken to me, I would have a very serious conversation with him.

I buy loads of products on the web each year and have for years now and in all my experiences in returning web purchased products, this was by far my worst. Such a shame my first Dick Smith online experience was so poor. It will most likely be my last. I expected so much more from what I previously considered was a great Australian company…

Mark is a checkout chick? LOL. Why don't you go back to the store and speak to the store manager?

Hahah +1 regarding mark the chick :P

Btw, you bought the 2GB version of this HDD? What an antique >.<

I guess Mark said the repair instead of replacement because you bought in June, that 3 months more than return/replacement period. So they send your HD to the manufacturer for repair.

    Whoops 2TB version I meant :-)

  • at least this deal doesn't say out of stock like the one with big w that was on about a week or so ago for those HP drives.

I bought the USB3 1TB Passport Essentials for $95 at HN.

    • +4

That's pretty cheap for HN. Usually you'll be paying it with your soul.

    • how do you get that price

  • campdempster really needs to learn how to spell…

    "APPAULLING"???

and since when were portable hard drives musical instruments??? How did Mark the chick play with the "chords"?

    • +1

      intermitted lol

That look cheap for DSE but staticice search show that you can get a 2TB for extra $20. Not sure if this is good value anymore.

    • which store? are they USB 3.0?

      • Oh soryy USB 2/0 is about $100 for 2tb on USB 3.0 I never focus on that cos I don't find that much actual difference when using usb 3.0 drives. On the other hand, Esata is still my choice for now, arounf $100 when you put a bare drive in an enclosure.
