Call from Services Australia Hung up

So I just received a phone call at around 7pm, which instantly started off with a recording stating that the call is from Services Australia. After the recording kept going for a while detailing circumstances and the call will be recorded for training purposes etc, there were like 8 beeps and then the line hung up. It didn't even transfer me to a human operator.

I imagine they were calling because I registered an intent to claim for jobseeker. What are my options? Will they recall or do I have to re-register??

Update for anyone else:
I received a text the day after, saying they will call me shortly. Never received phone call.

Partner missed the call (i.e. never picked up the phone unlike me), got a call back the very next day. Good luck all.

    • I just stated that the recording said it was from Services Australia, I have no other form of verification other than being told prior that I will receive a call from a private number, which it was.

  • Digressing a bit, be very careful of and SMS messages from sources such as the ATO, AusPost and other official organisations which you cannot directly relate to.
    Hackers have now found a way to send messages which attach themselves to your phone tags of previous genuine messages.
    For example, you may have received a genuine message from XXXX in the past and now the hackers can send a message to attach a message to the same message thread on your phone to make it appear genuine. (hope that makes sense)

    • Makes sense. That's why I'm uncertain. My partner received an SMS from services earlier today stating they will be calling shortly, and then they called using a private number (although frustratingly she missed the call).

      I however did not receive a text prior to the call. BUT, I registered days before she did and she received that text and call before me.

      • In the exact same situation as your partner. I received the text but unfortunately missed the follow up call. ugh.

        Have you found out if there's anything we can do? Or do you think they may call again?

  • There are massive, massive VOIP/SIP issues since everyone has been working at home. I heard a similar story to yours from a friend yesterday. Privacy statement then it hung up on them.

    • Any news on what your friend did? Hoping this won't make me have to wait a long time again because as far as I know if I register the claim again, it might backdate pay to the new claim, and not the old claim which was done a week or so ago.

      • He's waiting. Like hundreds of thousands of others sadly. He has savings to tie him over and knows it'll be backdated eventually.

  • Why don't u fill the details out yourself. Took us about an hr plus need to upload bank statements from Jan 1. Next day you will get an sms saying your details are now in process. Plus a 2 week wait for a yay or nay. Forgot to add we do already have a crn.

    • I don't have a CRN. Never interacted with Centrelink in my life. I was only directed by the Mygov site that they will call me to proceed with the claim. Whether or not they do the CRN for me in the call, I wouldn't know.

  • Any updates? Just had this phone call myself, privacy statement followed by 8 beeps and a hangup. I got the text message on Friday saying they'd call me shortly, then they called me about 48 hours later. And nothing… Very frustrating, never been through Centrelink before so no CRN and am relying on this. Don't know who to even ask about this… So any updates?

      Update: not me. My partner missed the first call (unlike me who picked up the phone), and she received a call the day after.

      I still have yet to receive another call back, although weirdly I received a text message the day after my weird phone call saying they will call me shortly, but they never did.

    IN a similar situation OP. I registered for intent to claim over a week ago. Don't have a CRN.

    I missed the call on Friday though. Haven't heard anything since then. Surely they call again?

    • See above comment. Partner missed call, they called back the next day. Sorted out the CRN on the spot, just took a while and the operator held her hand through the process. You will need stuff like drivers license, passport info etc ready.

      • They called me today and were very helpful guiding me through the process :)

      Partner received call back the day after (in the morning, around the same time first call was missed).

  • Had the same issue. Been waiting a few days for a call, then got one. They read out some privacy statement, said they were connecting me to someone, had a few loud beeps, then it hung up.

    Definitely trying to be understanding, I'm sure it's frantic everywhere right now, I'm just not sure what to do now… just wait or re-register?

  • Same issue here. I’ve received two text messages and One call with the automated voice call which hung up on me.

    • I received a phone call again today, which put me through to a human operator. Unfortunately I was in a very busy situation so I could not follow through with, so the lady told me to call 132307 to continue with the claim.

      If you have time to, follow through with the call they will follow you up on, otherwise, you will be directed to make the phone call yourself, which I'm worried will put you in a long phone queue if I am basing on stories I've heard of people being put on hold for 5 hours. So make sure to follow through with that phone call!!

        Just an update for anyone - I’ve received a call this morning and got it all submitted in the end. Looks like they do keep a track of whether they got it sorted with you or not. Good luck to all!

  • I was wondering if anyone has had this issue after they've started receiving payments? They texted me at 10am on Thursday saying they'd call soon from a private number, and called nine times over the space of an hour (between 7 and 8 pm). I didn't see the calls until yesterday. Just wondering if I should worry about this
