Xiaomi Cameras Waking up on Its Own

Little bit of a creepy one, I've got 2 Xiaomi cameras, 1 is a 360 and the other is the wide-angle Mijia 1080P.

We used to have them on all the time, now the 360 is barely on as I am home all the time and the Mijia is on when the baby is in the cot (I put the camera to sleep when shes awake as it tends to heat up)

Today, I got a notification of 'Person detected' when my husband came home and when I checked the Playback of when it first came back online, it was 1.15am and it definitely wasnt my husband and I as we were both sleeping.

This also kept happening a while back, at the time my Xiaomi account was my old email which has been compromised a few times when I checked the haveibeenpwned page. I went and changed the sign in email to a brand new email which has never been signed up for anything. Also, the main thing that made me actually change the email and password was that when it woke up, the 360 camera rotated to a more 'general' area.

Is this a common thing??? Like sometimes when I put my computer to sleep, it wakes up on its own to do some updating or whatever, but this is creeping me out. I'm not one to care for privacy in terms of online browsing and targeted advertising but its a little different if someone's actually watching.

I tried looking around the Xiaomi account settings to see if I can see the login IP's but couldnt seem to find it.

I have since unplugged the 360 cam and put on the "password" on wake for the baby cam

I just really wish they'd put the camera back to sleep after they are done. My last 2monthly electric bill was $550 😭

Not surprising being that Xiaomi is a Chinese Company. Which means that there are backdoors installed as enforced by the CCP. Xiaomi has also been exposed in the pass for sending back data and exposed for spying on people with Xiaomi phones.

Also their Xiaomi Home app that anyone who buys one of their bidets/robot vacuums/etc. has to use, as soon as you grant it access to storage it scans everything and drops hidden files all over the place (to keep track of what folders it has scanned).

      • Same with 'We Chat' but worse. Their permission settings are basically 'Would you like to become a Chinese spy and spy on Australia for us? Yes | No'
