Help Me Pick an Affordable Laptop or PC (around $1600- $2100)

I'm here again to ask the Ozbargain Knights for advice. I've done a bunch of research but am still having issues knowing what's a good deal or not.

Looking for a machine for editing & graphics work (Mostly Adobe, some 3D). I'm currently on a 8gb ram/2gb gfx laptop and the processor isn't supported on the new Adobe Premiere Pro.

I'd much rather a laptop but if the price difference is very big ($450+) I'll consider a desktop (I can even build if its cheaper. I have a case+monitor already)). I'm happy to wait for a month or 2 for a deal.

Specs looking for:
* 17" screen (if laptop)
* 16gb+ RAM
* Graphics: a cheap 8gb one if possible? RTX 2070?
* I'll eventually need a 500gb+ SSD but am happy to upgrade it myself if I need.

Deals I looked at:
* Dell G7 w RTX 2070 Apparently this was down to $1750 a few months ago. Perhaps I wait for something similar to popup?
* The current 15% off selected Ebay stores Nothing here stood out near as good as the G7 a few months ago. A refurbished ASUS with GTX1070 came close…

But yeah not really sure what's a good deal. Would love any advice.
Thanks!

    I'm happy to wait for a month or 2 for a deal.

    There seems to be a drought of computer deals, but as AMD has just released a new 7 nanometer CPU lineup for mobiles (Ryzen 4000 series) you may want to wait and see for future deals on either new parts or outgoing / obsolete laptops.

    On Lenovo:

    $999 Lenovo Legion laptop (coupon code: LASTCHANCE) Core i5 8300H/ 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD / GTX 1050 4GB

    Not a very good deal considering something like this ASUS FX505DT was less than $1000 delivered but that was before the global recession hit. It's generally not a great time to be shopping for technology right now but I guess many of us don't have a choice.

    • Graphics: a cheap 8gb one if possible? RTX 2070?

    RTX 2070 on laptops are not cheap. Legion Y740 with RTX 2070 is $2500, ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DV with RTX 2060 is $1,799.00

    • Thanks heaps. I'll probably wait a bit then.

  • Re desktops look at techfast deals to get an idea of what the lowest price point will be.

    Wait until EOFY sales. The work at home boom has killed discounts on laptops.

      Thanks for the good advice. Didn't even think of it!
